PostPosted: Tue Aug 08, 2006 9:16 pm    Post subject: Need help configuring my vonage phone Reply with quote Back to top

I am a newbie with Vonage.
I just bought a Vonage phone router.
I have a cable modem with a static IP configuration that i have to configure on the Vonage linksys router.
Also, i have a separate wireless device that i have to connect to one of the internet slots in the conage linksys router to make the wireless work.

Can somebody guide me or show me a document which has detailed instrutctions to do the same?

Thanks in advance!

What exactly do you need help with? You seem to have a pretty good idea of what you need to do.

1) Static IP - On the setup page of the Vonage router (http://192.168.15.1). There will be a drop down box towards the top of the page in which there is a Static IP option. Choose that, then input the required settings. Click Save Settings.

2) You should just be able to plug the wireless device in and go!

Good summary, but one small correction. It's http://192.168.15.1 not 1.15 Wink

well, the problem is that i did configure the static ip confiuration on the linksys router. I have connected the cable from the cable modem to the linksys router . When i connect my phone - the light doesn't come on and there is no dial tone.
Also, the internet light is not a steady light and is blinking at a steady pace - is that correct?
i thought it should be a steady light.

When I connect my laptop - i dont seem to be able to acess the internet - do i have to change my settings for it to be a dynamic IP again instead of the static IP that it was hving? can you help me on how to do that?

Normally, the Internet light will blink. Modems generate constant activity in a lot of cases even if there is no actual data being passed.

You have it correct, you now have to set your PC to use an IP address that is assigned from your Vonage router.

Set your network connection to "obtain IP address automatically".

Start / Settings / Network Connections / (select your Network connection)
Click "Properties"
In the list under "This connection uses the following items:", you'll find "Internet Protocol TCP/IP", double click on that.
Set "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" on.
Click "OK".

You should now be connected.

Right, but that doesn't explain why there's no phone light or dial tone.

Csrini, once you've done the things that have been explained so far, please get back to us about the phone issue. Please include details about all of your devices, exactly how they're hooked together, and what is and isn't working.

Allright...there was a problem with the router itself.
I returned it back at circuit cyt and got a new one. It's working fine now.

Thanks all for your help!
