Your Vonage phone and the numbers listed ring at the same time until one of them is answered, to which to call is transfered.

Here is an example of how Simulring is used: I have my Vonage PAP2 adapter in my house. I set up the Simulring number to be my cell phone. When someone calls my Vonage number, my cell phone rings at the same time. If I am not at home, it is like call forwarding. If I am at home, I can pick up the cell phone or the cordless connected to my Vonage adapter, since both are ringing at the same time with that call.

I just love the simulring feature but am having a problem that that I can't think my way around and was hoping someone could help! I have my simulring set to ring my Vonage account and my cell phone. This is working out great. My only problem is that when I try to call home from my cell phone, I get directed to my cell phone's voicemail set up since I'm already on the cell phone and that is what picks up first. Make sense? Any ideas on how to get around this?

I thought about forwarding from home to cell back to home since I would like any messages left on the Vonage voicemail and not my cell but I don't think that would work out either. Help!

TIA!

The only thing I can think of is to turn off call waiting on your cell phone. Simulring will see a busy signal on the cell phone and keep ringing on the Vonage line.

I know you can disable call waiting on a per call basis on my Verizon cell phone by dialing *70 before the call.

Actually, the only way is to disable Voicemail on your cell phone. Your cell company can do it, though the first few reps you talk to may not understand what you want to do ("wait a minute, you want to NOT have voicemail?")

If you call your Vonage line from your cell, the Vonage line calls you right back, with your own caller ID. Since your cell company will transfer you to voice mail if you call your own number from your cell phone, your cell picks up automatically and dumps you to voicemail. And since your cell phone picked up the call, Vonage hands the call off to your Cell.

The other downside to Simulring is if you are somewhere your cell cannot get signal. Vonage will detect that "someone" answered on your cell. That "someone", unfortunately, is the recording saying "Message xyz: the customer you are calling cannot be reached.", or your cell phone voicemail, depending on your cell company.

Another little "gotcha". If your cell is set for a shorter number of rings than your Vonage line, all of your voicemail will go to your cell. So if you use SimulRing, be sure to check your cell's voice mail from time to time.

None of these are anything Vonage can really do anything about, just limitations in what SimulRing does and what cell phones do.
