If anyone can provide some ideas on how to diagnose further or improve, I would be most appreciative. Vonage customer service has helped a little but not enough. They transferred me to their "advanced technical support line". However, I was not willing to wait more than 30 minutes on the phone for assistance.

My statistics follows. Thank you in advance.

2. ISP: Time Warner Roadrunner – modem – supporting wireless l

I'd go to www.testyourvoip.com and run the call to Boston and post those results for comparison purposes. That would probably help to pinpoint the problem.

So you did, but some of the information from the testyourvoip test seems to be missing. For example, discards and losses as degradation sources are there, but the absolute percentages of losses and discards are missing. However, your scores seem pretty high, inconsistent with the problems you're having.

Please try temporarily removing the router and plugging the Vonage unit directly into the modem. Does that improve things?
