I have been using Vonage for over almost six months without a problem. I travel a lot and am not at a place that only has cable service and I cannot figure out how to get my phone working using the cable modem.
The provider is Charter
The modem is a Scientific Atlanta cable modem
hooked to a D-Link 524 router
using a Linksys PAP2
with a VTech cordless phone
I have hooked it to several DSL systems without any problem what so ever. What settings to I need to change to get my system working.
Thank you, Tim |

What is and isn't working? Do you get a phone light on the PAP2? If so, do you get a dial tone?
The D-link is a wireless router. If your cordless phone is 2.4 GHz and you're getting a phone light, dial tone, and so forth but can't make calls, then interference between the router and the phone could be the problem. Assuming that's not it, do you have internet connectivity on a computer via the D-link? If so, please run the forum VoIP test (top right corner of your screen) and report the detailed results here. |

Is it the same router as you've always used? Esentially the PAP2 is initially configured to have a permanent IP or DHCP one from the router when it boots up. There is a voice activated thing using a telephone to do the initial setup - remember?
Start from the basics, like is the router connecting to the ISP and the internet is working fine? If so look on the Web GUI for the router and look in the DHCP client list to see if the PAP2 is accepting an IP from the router or what IP it's using. If it's getting that far something is blocking it from getting IN or OUT. You could try setting the DMZ to the IP the PAP2 is using (on the router) and reboot the PAP2 etc. |
