I have had the Vonage service for the past 4 months. I have RT31P2 router provided by Vonage. The config is:

DSL modem >>> RT31P2 >>> PC.

The service had been working quite ok, until about 3 weeks back, since when there is no dial tone. The power light on the RT31P2 is up, and so are the internet & ethernet indicators. The two indicators for the phone are blank. I can log in to the router through my PC and I observed that under status - voice, while my Vonage telephone number is correct, I also see a message 'offline' or 'cannot login to server' alongside. Speaking to the Vonage customer service folks has not helped. Any idea what the problem could be? The same router when connected at a friend's place works.

have you recently changed any of your settings on the router or on your modem? that is, is your dsl modem one of those modem/router combos? Is this new? It seems like you did the logical thing and took your router to your friend's house and it works so we know the Vonage router is not your problem.

Or have you changed your configuration i.e. reversed pc with router, etc. just some things to think about since you said that it worked fine for a while.

did you say you weren't able to log in to the itnernet as well? if you can go online but ndt, go the router's page and reset the voice, otherwise, try connecting your modem directly to your computer and check for internet...

if you can go online w/o the router hooked up, try rebooting the entire network,(w/ the router hooked up this time) if you have already done that to no avail, try pressing the reset button

i do think that your router is still workng fine, maybe it just needs a little poke to wake up its entire system?

hope it helps........... Idea

Before doing this you would want to exhaust all other options.

First off, you never stated if you can still connect to the Internet through your Vonage device, can you?

If you can, unplug your entire network. Modem, MTA, PC's and anything else on the network, unplug them totally so their capacitors drain. Then plug them back in one by one, start with the modem. Once that is fully booted up, plug in the router, then once that is up continue on with the PC's and other devices. The code that the Voice section of the router has is very picky to say the least. It will search for its WAN side IP address only once, then give up. Whereas the router side will keep trying to obtain one.

Does your DSL modem require PPoE to be enabled? If so, make sure that the user/pass are input correctly and that the protocol is selected.

Does your DSL modem register to a specific MAC address. If so, is that MAC cloned in your MTA settings?

Finally, if all of that fails do a hard reset of your device. Just locate the reset button on the back of your MTA and hold it down for 15+ seconds and let it go. Wait another 15 seconds, and unplug/replug the device and let it boot back up. Then re-enter any DSL/network specific settings you had before. That will reset the voice part of the router too, so there would be no reason to do a soft reset of the voice part of the MTA.

And if none of that works post back here and I will see what else I can do to get you up and running.
