I have problems with voice quality on received calls. I hear people with very garbled/chopped voice. They can hear me OK. If I place calls both sides are happy.

(This line is plugged in to the second port of the Vonage router. I have another Vonage line but that one is never used since it's just forwarded to my cell phone.

My settings:
Location: Los Angeles, CA
ISP: DSL from SBC/AT&T
Speed: download 1.5-3 Mbps, upload: 384-512 Kbps
Modem: SpeedStream 5100
Vonage Adapter: RT31P2
Network Setup: Modem -> Router/Switch/Firewall (Netgear FVS318) ->Vonage adapter->Phone

Your test scores don't jibe with your experience, so the problem could be with the voice circuits in the RT31P2. If you haven't tried re-booting the setup, please do so. Also test line 1 and see if it's having similar problems.

If re-booting doesn't fix it, please run a comparison Voip test at testyourvoip.com with a test call to Boston. Post the detailed results here.

I have the same situation. They can hear me fine, but what I hear is VERY choppy; to the point that I can't make out what they are saying.

I ran a Voip test at http://www.testyourvoip.com and there are the results on a received call from Boston (I live in DC). The test showed my outbound was just fine, which jives with what I hear on the phone.

BTW, I have Cox Premium Internet (15Mbps) and it consistantly tests very high (>8Mbps even in the evening when a lot of people are on). But this call was at 10am when the speed test showed 18Mbps.

I've also posted the results from the Voip test from this website at the bottom.

Any ideas?

Tuesday night I was having another problem with my Vonage (callers would either hear a busy sound or "Your call didn't go through" recording) So i had no choice but to call support. After being hung up on twice I had to raise my voice at the support person and was transferred to the Premium Support desk. That experience was somewhat better (I still had to explain for about 5 minutes that I have a 4 line phone and it's OK to have multiple lines connected to it and no I don't need to have 2 separate telephones for my two Vonage lines, the rep obviously has never heard of multiple line phones).

Since there were fixing one of my problems I told the rep about my voice quality. He did some type of upgrade to my Vonage adapter and not the call quality seems to be much better.

I was waiting for few days to make sure how it's working before I post more information.

Good Lord, your packet losses are horrendous. Plug your computer directly into your modem and re-run the tests. If the losses don't go way down, then the problem is with your ISP (which includes your modem). If they do, then we need to troubleshoot your equipment.

By the way, your MOS score of 3.9 is totally out of line with your packet discards. Please report this in the thread on the forum Voip test. It's at the very top of the forum. We need to report inconsistencies so the programmer can fix them.
