Hi all new to the forums here but thought some of you may be able to help. Here is the issue...
I have Comcast Cable Internet service and up until 5 weeks ago my service with Vonage was GREAT! Then I started getting Static and not just small amounts of static, I mean so bad you could not hear the other person on the line. I thought it was my cordless telephone that was going bad (that was a 2.4GHZ Uniden phone). I went out and bought a Brand New Panasonic 5.8GHZ Cordless Phone. I have had great reliability with Panasonic phones and never had static issues with a land line phone. When I hooked up the new phone the static still appeared. I tried moving the phone to a different location, and even bought new phone line to use with it. Still no help. The problem is the static is intermitted, sometimes it is clear as a bell and other times it is so bad 3rd world countries would have better conversations. I called Vonage Tech Support and they switched the phone line from phone 1 to phone 2 on the router. I have the Lynksis RTP31 router or something like that
Any ideas what may be causing it? Do I point the finger at Vonage? Comcast? Maybe it is the router going bad? Please any help would be great.. I use my cell phone more to call since I never know how clear my phone is going to be and that defeats all the deals that Vonage gives you.
Thanks for your help!! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.. |

I think that you have covered everything on the checklist except possibly moving the router/adapter away from other equipment. I personally attribute static to wiring problems in most cases. I infer from your post that the cordless phone is connected directly to the phone adapter. I would make sure that the phone cables are not bunched together with other cables. I would try connecting a corded phone just to rule out wireless interference. After that I would suspect a router problem but, it would just be a guess at this point. If you find there is a time when you are getting static it might be helpful to run a speed test (from this site) to assess the quality of your Internet connection. |

Well I fixed the problem... seems I did everything but turn off the router and RESET it by hitting the reset button. I did that and now everything is clear as a bell.
Thanks for the suggestions all ! |

I have had the same issues since May. Same set of circumstances, same equipment, same ISP. The problem is intermittent and resetting sometimes does help. This past week I was unable to use the phone from Sunday through Wednesday morning.
I moved the adapter and my cable modem a little bit away from each other to see if heat was an issue. The boxes were definetly hot but not out of the ordinary hot (if that makes sense). We'll see how it goes for a couple weeks. |

Hey there I can understand your pain with not being able to use the phone. The other thing that Vonage did was switch my line 1 to line 2 on the router. That may have helped but I had static even after they did that. It was not until I reset the Vonage router PLUS the Cable Modem. I hit the RESET button on both. Perhaps you can try hitting the reset button on your cable modem ?

My brother-in-law in Ireland said my voice was crackling on the line. I could hear him fine. I had the telephone line hooked up in-line with a UPS/surge protector. I disconnected the telephone from the surge protector and went direct to the Vonage RTP300 modem. The crackling/static was reduced significantly. I reset the modem for good measure. |
