I am running the same version on several Macintosh machines. Generally speaking, it works flawlessly on my PowerBook G4 system. It does have a tendency to crash from time to time on my PowerMac G5 system (dual core), however I should note that I do leave it running 24x7 on the G5, and have both systems configured to use my Sony HBH-660 Bluetooth headset. When it does crash on the G5 it seems to be when someone calls my number (typically as a wrong number -- for the most part I use my softphone number for outgoing calls only, and haven't given the number out to but a few people), and I and my Bluetooth headset are not near the system. Even then, in the majority of cases it behaves properly. And when it does "crash", it doesn't quit -- it just starts emitting an annoying sound from the systems speakers and has to be Force Quit.

Note, however, that both of my machines are PowerPC systems. I'm not fortunately enough yet to have an Intel-based Mac, although I'm helping a friend buy one on Tuesday, and will be setting up the X-TEN softphone software on it, so I can try to experiment with it to see if we can replicate your findings.

Is the Vonage provided Softphone software built as a Universal binary yet, or are you running it under Rosetta?

it says in activity monitor that its a PowerPC Type executable. i must say that the crashes are not a random thing, it happends EVERY TIME i use it. each and every call hanging is resulted in a crash.

As it turns out, this is a known issue for the X-TEN software on Intel Macs, as evidenced by this thread on their forums:

http://support.counterpath.com/viewtopic.php?t=7074&sid=70a01c6285800c8e610df1df8f33d58a

SJLab's Voip phone software apparently works fine under Rosetta, however:

Best of luck!

One other option I've recently found which might work for you is
XMeeting. It is a video conferencing package, however it also supports Voip. And perhaps best of all, it is free, Open Source, and built as a Universal binary.

I happened upon this software just yesterday, and while I have configured it to use the Vonage servers, and it appears to be connecting correctly, I haven't actually had a chance to test it out as a Voip client. I'm hoping to run some tests later today, however. It does integrate nicely with the OS X Address Book, and has a simple, friendly Cocoa/Aqua interface.

I'll run a test between XMeeting and my cell phone later today, and will let you know what my results are like. Hopefully as a Universal binary this will work better for you than the commercial, PPC packages you've tried so far.

Have you had any luck? I unfortunately haven't. It seems to connect to the SIP server while in its idle state, but outbound calls fail with some sort of unknown user error. Incoming calls aren't received at all.

I had so much hope for this solution. I'll try to find some time to play with it some more.

Were either of you successful in getting xmeeting running with Vonage? Or find a stable softphone version or alternative? Thanks...
