Well, there are a couple of things. First, the testyourvoip results are pretty good. Packet losses are a little high on the downlink, but they aren't too serious and your problem is in the other direction anyway. Results with and without the VT2442 are not too different. You've eliminated cordless phones as the culprit.

The thing that stands out in all this is that the forum test says you have high discards, and that is in accordance with the problem you're seeing, but the testyourvoip results don't agree.

Frankly, I'm stumped. Tomorrow when you can use the forum test again, see if things repeat; i.e., bad results with the VT in place and good results with it out. If they do, then you might want to call 888 250 1799 and try to get to tier 2 support. Maybe they can figure something out from all this.

Well, the only thing clear hear is that the situation isn't very clear. Apparently whatever is happening is making for a lot a variation in the tests. However, we've now seen pretty consistently poor results with the forum test and at least some poor results with the testyourvoip test. More importantly, we see some poor results from both tests both with and without the VT2442. My conclusion is that you have an ISP issue (which includes your modem).

Do you have a friend with broadband service who would cooperate for a test? If so, you might want to take the VT2442 to his/her place and test it on that service.

Heh, the problem is I don't really. I'm up in at school for the summer, most of my friends don't come back till late august. And I need phone service before then. This is making this not go too smoothly.

If the issue is indeed with the ISP, I didn't start having problems until a wireless router was plugged in on top of the VT2442 (I've since unplugged it). Would this cause the ISP (roadrunner) to flip out and start discarding packets or limiting bandwidth? It seems strange that at that moment this started happening.

It is strange, but I can't imagine the ISP even noticing that wireless router, much less flipping out over it for some reason.

weird. So basically, I'm wondering who (when I rangle a cell phone from someone) I shoudl be calling and what I should be telling them.

Actually, even though I think the problem is with your ISP, I'd start with Vonage technical support. They have more incentive to try to figure out the problem. The symptoms you listed in your first post are a very good start starting point for your discussion, though I would leave about the part with the wireless router. That seems to be a coincidence. I'd call 888 250 1799 and ask to be put in touch with tier 2 technical support.

When you get to the point where you call your ISP, DO NOT mention you're having a problem with Vonage, in fact don't mention anything about Vonage. Just tell them your Internet connection seems very slow and you want them to check it out.

Question, what type of cable modem do you have? If you browse to:

http://192.168.100.1/

does anything come up?

I recently called Vonage. They (tier 2) seemed to think it was a local service issue, so they put all kinds of notice on it and are supposedly "working on it". Have not called my ISP yet and probably going to wait a few days to see if Vonage actually does anything.

Cable modem is Terayon TJ 715X.
When I clicked it the first time it took to long to respond. Refreshing the page, this came up.

PC Connectivity:
USB: Not Connected
Ethernet: 100 BaseT Full Duplex
USB Vendor ID: 06 cc
MAC Address: (is this safe to publish?)
CM Model: TJ715x

Cable Signal: Ready
Tuning: Complete
Ranging: Complete

Data Service: Ready
Connecting: Complete
Configuring: Complete
Registering: Complete
