Odd, it should work, unless you're missing some sort of PPPoE login or something. It's probably worth investigating whether Telecom Italia is blocking any non-native Voip, SIP, or voice UDP. We've seen a few state-run companies blocking Vonage and Voip in general, especially if they have their own Voip products.

I solved it out.....and i fear it was a firmware problem(of Vonage phone)....my AP was working in AUTO MODE(it set automatically speed of clients to 802.11b or 802.11g).....while Vonage phone support 802.11b....i tried to force AP to work on 802.11b...and BINGO!......

..But all my WI-Fi network now is limited to 802.11b..that means to 11Mbp/sec......

This seems like a firmware problem of the router. There are some routers, when set to mixed mode, only allow connection of 802.11g devices. The Vonage phone is 802.11b only - which is hardware, not firmware.

802.11g works fine if all your devices are 802.11g. If you add any 802.11b device, everything drops back to 802.11b per the 802.11g standard. The exception on some vendors is that if you have your PC locked to 802.11g only, and it is what comes up first, the router/AP locks to 802.11g and can't fall back to 802.11b because the PC would quit working.

Sry i din't say that my access point first was running on AUTO MODE(802.11b OR 802.11G)......it was NOT looked on 802.11G mode....and i have latest firmware both for the Router and for the AP.....

What I was trying to say is that even if your router/AP is on Auto, with some vendors, it will lock to 802.11g if the first device coming up on it is locked to 802.11g.

In your case, it doesn't matter if you lock it on 802.11b since you are trying to use a device that only uses 802.11b. A router/AP that uses 802.11g is required to slow everyone down to 802.11b if a device that uses 802.11b come up on it. That means you really aren't losing anything by setiing it to 802.11b.

One other item to ocnsider is your outbound bandwidth. If you are connected to 2MB or 3MB DSL or cable, then running the WiFi at 802.11b should not matter a whole lot unless you have a lot of "internal" traffic. If most or all of the traffic on the router is destined for the world and not the LAN, the outbound link is usually the bottleneck.

Hey all,

I just switched apartments in Rome, Italy and now use Telecom Italia DSL instead of Fastweb DSL.

I had zero probs with fastweb, but big ones with Telecom and Vonage.

I'm plugging it in without any wireless router or anything else in the loop. It's the Telecom Italia DSL modem to the Vonage modem then to my computer. I get no dial tone and no internet connection.

Without the Vonage modem, the internet connection works great.

Any clues? I could really use some brains here.

Thanks,
Curt
