I run a home network with 3 computers. One of my computers runs faxtalk pro and a radio station server.
When I received my Motorola V2442 router, I made that my main router because I wanted to have the phone prioritization for voice calls.
However, I needed to forward port 80 over to my radio station server for incoming listeners. It did not work on the motorola. They sent me a new Motorola, same thing. I have two V2442's on which the custom port forwarding is not working.
I put my D-Link DI-604 in, no problems at all.
Now I have a dilemma. I want the voice prioritization, but you figure on a router like the V2442 a basic function like port forwarding would work. I have spent 3 days total trying to get the port forwarding to work. I enabled DMZ for the ip I was forwarding to, I did custom port forwarding. I even created a new user rule and applied it to the ip that I wanted to use, no cigar. I disabled the firewall, etc.
This is the only router that Vonage sells that has the voice prioritzation and rj45 ports for other computers.
Let's see if my voice get's choppy again next week. I am at a loss here. |

I'm sorry to hear about the inability to port forward on your Vonage router. Many on this forum who have a network greater than 1 computer seem to agree that the routers given by Vonage lack the robustness to handle the customization needs.
As a result, there have been many who have suggested that using a router only model have seem to helped them overcome a lot of their issues. Some have suggested the Hawking router as well. Do a search and you should find many here suggest certain routers.
Another one is a linksys model that can take a 3rd party firmware which also does very good prioritizing of voice data.
hope this helps, mundy5 |

The D-Link that I have does not allow prioritization of data from an ip on the subnet.
I will check around.
It is very hard to believe that the motorola router does not do basic port forwarding correctly.
I may go directly to Motorola and report the bug. |

I seem to recall a thread in which people were saying that settings on the VT2442 weren't "taking", and had to be entered several times or some such. You might want to do a search on the forum and in the archives.
By the way, Vonage does offer the WRTP54G, which can do phone prioritization. |

I've seen references here in the forum to disabling it, but I don't have one myself. I assume it can be done. I know it can be disabled in the WRT54G if the owners manual is to be believed. |

I have been reading on the forums about bugs with this router too? Have you head anything? |

Not so much bugs as declarations that it simply isn't very robust as a router. For the average lite-duty user it's probably fine. For heavy data handling, a good router designed just for that is preferred. |

I have the VT2442. I chose to put it behind my main router which does not offer QoS. So far (knock on wood) I have not had any issues. There are generally 3 or 4 computers connected with teens banging away at IM and P2P file sharing (no copyright infringement I'm sure). All is well...but maybe I'm just lucky. |
