I signed up for Vonage a week ago and am awaiting transfer of my number. Reading this forum has me a bit concerned as it has a mostly negative view, although I guess it makes sense since folks generally post to forum because they are having some sort of problem. I've always felt that this is one fallacy with getting information from the internet - whether it's from forums, customer reviews, etc.: the information tends to be one-sided. You hear either the very positive or the extremely negative. In between, there are likely many more neutral opinions.
So on to my question. Are there thousands of Vonage customers who's numbers are ported over without issue, or is this problem widespread and typical of what to expect? |

Took Vonage 1 1/2 months to port. Messed up the porting and had no phone service for another 1 1/2 months.
Tried for almost 5 months to get them to release my old number so I could go with a new carrier after filing complaints with the FCC, BBB, and Michigan Attorney Generals Office. |

Pretty reasonable to me. Although I would have liked to give Talk America (aka a new fee each month) the boot the day I plugged in my Vonage router.

Verizon --> Vonage inside of two weeks for me.
I did some things up front to ease the pain. They didn't speed up the transfer but they helped me feel like I wasn't going to get trapped.
- I didn't port my number until about a month after I signed up for Vonage. This let me make sure my internet connection was up to the task and that Vonage was all it was hyped to be before I unpluigged from Verizon. Only after I was happy with Vonage did I make the decision to port my phone number.
- While I had both services I set up my Verizon landline to forward all calls to my Vonage number. This let me use Vonage as my primary phone but I never had to give out my temporary Vonage number. |
