Post subject: Proper Port forwarding for Cisco ATA186 and Motorola VT1005V
I recently upgraded my broadband router to a SMC 7008ABR and started
experiencing problems with my
Vonage
service. I actually have two
Vonage
units: (1) Cisco ATA186 and (2) Motorola VT1005V. After I
switched to my new SMC router it seems that I could always get one but
not both of my units working. I called
Vonage
Technical Support and was
lucky to get someone who actually knew about this problem and knew
what to do to fix the problem.
The fix is as follows:
He updated the system at the
Vonage
end to force my Cisco ATA186 unit
to always use UDP Port 5061. He also updated the
Vonage
system to
force my Motorola VT 1005V to always use UDP Port 5062. He then had
me determine my internal IP addresses of each of these units and forward the above UDP Ports to the appropriate unit. Ever since it has
all worked fine.
In summary:
CISCO ATA186 UDP Port 5061 Forwards to 192.168.2.101
MOTOROLA VT1005V UDP Port 5062 Forward to 192.168.2.123
You will need to adjust the IP Addresses as appropriate for your setup
after you ask
Vonage
Tech Support to force each unit to use a known
UDP port (rather than try to have each unit use some random port with
a large range
Vonage
expect to have available)
