If you're using wireless components in your network setup- such as a wireless router- then that could be your problem and replacing the cordless with a 5.8 GHz one would help. If you don't have wireless network components, then it shouldn't be an issue.

Of course it's also possible that your 2.4 GHz cordless is just sick.

i think it was fixed by a "packet" the tech support guy did.

also he had me make sure the wireless router was 3ft minium distanmce away from the Vonage box.

he first had me do a upload and download test and then he said "oh..." and did the "packet".

I rebooted and its bcak to crystal clear?

Ihad 1220up and 650 receive...I have no idea what the "packet" was. He sounded like he was from India.(which was no problem).

I wonder does it drop out regularly?? What is the "packet"???

He probably adjusted the packet size, making them smaller and thus more numerous so that if one is lost it won't affect the quality as much.

I'm sure someone has a better analogy, but here's mine:

Suppose you have a large poster to assemble. You send one envelope at a time, each containing a 8.5"x11" sheet of paper. You then assemble the sheets into the whole poster. If one sheet is missing, the poster has a very noticeable defect. The smaller the sheet of paper, the less noticeable one missing is. If they were post-it notes and the poster was large you might not even notice the missing piece.

The packet is like the envelope. The audio gets put into the "envelope" and sent over the net, where it is reassembled. The smaller the size of the envelope, the smaller the size of the paper.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

That's a close analogy.

What I want to know is what is "lamens"?

I think he means "layman's" terms (ie. non-expert's terms).

As to the packets and how they relate to Voip, here is a page I typed up describing the impact of "discarded"/delayed packets, which might be helpful:

Thanks. I would have never put those together. I have a hard time reading what people write on the Internet. I guess it's because I was trained in speed reading, and current schools don't seem to get the job done when teaching English. I did try to look it up in on-line dictionaries that offer alternatives, but none got close.

I saw someone point out that there is a spell-check built into this forum.
