PostPosted: Thu Jul 27, 2006 6:14 am    Post subject: first month free billing question. Reply with quote Back to top

Just signed up for Vonage and noticed in my account that my balance is 0. They did not charge for activation or taxes etc..

Will these charges come through after the first free month?? and will they charge activation?

My next billing due date is august 27th ( a month from yesterday) so I am guessing this is my free month? My first $ bill will be due sept 27th?

Any help would be great

Are you sure you weren't charged? Your BALANCE should be zero, but click on the link that says "Billing History" and look for a charge.

Your balance should be zero because you signed up, incurred an activation fee, etc. and that charge was IMMEDIATELY charged to your credit card, making your BALANCE zero.

Assuming you are looking under "Billing" in your Vonage on-line account, you are most likely looking at the screen titled "Current Billing and Account Information" and, more specifically, at the right side box that says "Pending Charges Summary". The "Billing History" link I'm talking about is up near the upper left.

Assuming this is all true, that's the deal -- you are seeing zero PENDING charges, because the initial costs are not pending, they have already been charged.

The first month free ONLY applies to the 24.99 service. It does NOT apply to activation fee (sometimes waived), shipping, whatever. As stated, your zero balance means you don't have any current plus (credits) or debits (outstanding $$$) w/Vonage. And, note that the month starts on your activation date - the date on which you sign up w/Vonage....NOT the date at which you get the adapter, get your number ported, or actually start using Vonage (common misconceptions).

Hmmm . . . don't know what terms applied to whatever offer was going on when you signed up, but you are definately looking at the spot I was talking about. It looks like you have no activation fee.

The same details you've just described look pretty much the exact same from my original sign-up, but I had a $29.99 activation fee.

It's possible (from what you've shown, I'd even say likely) that you won't have any activation fee.

I was curious to follow up and see if an activation fee was ever charged.

If it wasn't then it almost definitely won't be. Vonage doesn't backdate the act fee - 99.9% of the issues are with crediting the charge after it was applied 'in error', not the other way around.
