Heard from a 911 rep in my area (Houston TX), that the government will start making the Voip companies place a message when you first relocate your ATA.
When the system (Vonage, as an example) sees you have relocated to a different IP number, the system will generate a message to advise you to update your 911 location, or that the current location of your equipment may not be your registered location; and therefore, 911 information may be inaccurate.
I am not sure when this is to take effect (if ever).
Does anyone have any other information. Thanks |

That's going to be a pain in the buttocks for anyone who has an Internet connection where the IP address changes frequently.
Hopefully, they mean "when you change Class C networks" and not when your specific IP address changes. |

Hmmm . . . I don't see that happening, as it would certainly not be a reliable indicator of when you have relocated your ATA.
I can move all around the country and use Internet connections all over the country from all different providers and maintain the same public IP address (can anyone say VPN?).
If the goal is to keep 911 info accurate, this wouldn't do it! |
