For the past 2 weeks I have a problem with my phone.
Setup: Cable>WRTP54G>PC x3
I've been trying to find anyone else with the same problem, and it turns out that a buddy of mine that lives 10 min away is have the same problem. Disreguarding that, I called customer service and we walked through everything to try and solve the problem my side, and Vonage changed 2 things according to the service tech on their side. I thought maybe a firmware update would solve the problem but it didn't. I was going to be transfered to "Tier 2" support, but after holding on my cell phone for 15 minutes, I decided to hang up and search for information, with no result.
What happens when I pickup the phone?.. I hear static. There's no dial tone to speak of.
Attempted fixes? Vonage is hardwired into my home..Fix...Unhooked the adapter from the house, and connected a phone directly to it. Problem not resolved. In fact, I could hear a dialtone after restarting the adapter, the static was not as bad as before. Attempted to place a call.. success! .. hung up, tried another call, No dial tone and mild static. Restarted the process again..no luck.
I checked the house wireing to insure nothing had changed to wit: Nothing had changed =]...
I'm leaning towards maybe it being the adapter at this point, until I found out that my friend has the exact same problem. I'm not sure what the answer is right now. Is anyone else having or had this problem before, if so how was it fixed? Anymore Ideas? ..
Thanks, dwd121

You've given us a lot of good detail, but please tell us about your ISP. Is it the same as your buddy? What kind is it?
Please run a comparison Voip test at www.testyourvoip.com . Do a test call to Boston and post the detailed results here. |

Actually, My friend and I do have differen't ISP's, Mine is RoadRunner provided by Time Warner Cable.. and His is a local company called CMA.
I also ran the test, but I didn't get the text out put.
Instead I got a link that I'm not sure will work for others but I'll post it anyways.

The link worked fine and confirms the forum Voip test. Both results are good; your internet service doesn't seem to be a problem.
I see that you're using a wireless router. Is you phone by any chance a 2.4 GHz cordless? If so, please try substituting a simple corded phone and see if that works better. Alternately, shut down the wireless function in your router.
By the way, do you have a steady phone light on your adapter while these problems are going on? |

Thanks Steve for your responses.
I failed to mention that in my first post, I do have a cordless phone at 2.4Ghz and I have wireless running as well. While doing all the first steps with tech support, I did shut down the wireless connection but ultimately turned it back on with the issue wasn't resolved. I stopped thinking about it being a problem because before hand it never was. I have my better half picking up a cheap corded phone while she's at the store.
I'll post the results soon. |

Very good. If the problem is interference between your cordless and your wireless router, you can also check by temporarily disabling the wireless feature on the router. |

Ok, today was a new day. As last posted I asked my better half to pickup a corded phone, which she didn't do, but that's no big deal.
I went to OfficeMax today and found a cordless phone running aparently at 5.8Ghz. I also had Vonage reprovision my phone to "phone port 1" rather than "phone port 2". Alas!, this change worked for me and I haven't had a problem since 9am CST.
My best guess is that phone port 2 within the adapter somehow went bad. I'm still not clear on how that occured, maybe power outtage or something to the like. Maybe some sort of surge through the phone line itself. Reguardless it's all working again.
Thanks for the tips and tricks. dwd121 |

Well done. I should have thought of that, considering that I recently had the phone port I was using blown in a thunderstorm. Switching ports fixed mine as well. |
