This forum is graphic evidence that there is a real problem.

If it were my company and product, there wouldn't be a need for a forum.

I have better things to do and at some point Voip systems will HAVE to be as simple and as reliable as plugging in a USB printer.

They need a free, proprietary plug and play interface box that they can stand behind without all this garbage of mac cloning, dhcp, ip addresses, a tad of oregano and call us in the morning.

I'm going to mess with it later and in the mean time...miss my phone calls.

I hope that you get it all working and are happy; I really do. But I think what you expect is unreasonable. Just as it would have been unreasonable 100 years ago to expect someone to give you a free device you could just plug into copper wire based outlets and have it work with no hassle. Like it or not, new things come with growing pains.

You seem awfully high on your own company, but I GUARANTEE that your company (or any other, for that matter) cannot make ANY product that is 100% operationally dependent on MULTIPLE third party products and services over which you have ABSOLUTELY no control and have it work reliably 100% of the time.

And, again whether you like it or not, Vonage is just that -- the proper operation of Vonage at your house depends ABSOLUTELY on multiple items beyond Vonage's control (Your router, your modem, your electricity, your Internet connection, your ISP's router, your ISP's electricity, your ISP's internet backbone connection . . . and on and on).

Remember - up until old fashioned residential phone service was well over 50 years old, the phone company pretty much owned (and thereby controlled and serviced) virtually EVERY element of what it took to give you a dialtone at your house -- the phone you had sitting in your house, the jack in the wall that it was wired (by them) into, the wire running out of your house, the wire running through your neighborhood, into the central office owned, operated, and serviced by the phone company . . . and on and on -- they owned it all, controlled it all, and serviced it all.

I agree, as most on this forum do, that Vonage needs to work seriously on addressing customer service problems.

But I don't agree for one minute that this service should be as absolutely simple and trouble free as you seem to expect. I'd love it to be, don't get me wrong, but I don't consider it a problem that it is not. Vonage's CUSTOMER service - that's a problem. Vonage's service . . . not a problem.

No kidding. Every problem I've ever had with 'Vonage' has actually turned out to be a Comcast problem.

Sounds like you need to go back to a land line. I hate to tell you this, but if you are expecting some kind of magical device that is supposed to work over the Internet without an IP address, you might as well pack it up. Mac cloning isn't necessary, but I don't know what else to tell you, you're using a network device to get phone service over a resident-grade Internet connection. You're going to have to be at least a little knowledgeable to troubleshoot your Internet problems, which you are obviously having.

I do wish (and it's been mentioned by others on this board as well) that Vonage would do a better job of communicating to potential customers how much of an impact these sort of third party things could have on their service. I suppose it might scare of some potential customers, but it might keep just as many people from becoming very UNHAPPY customers later.

Listen.....you guys sit around and impress yourselves with nomenclature and BS about the (many) nuances of Vonage's "problems".

Just like a mountain and a molehill.

The digital world is not a "babe in the woods" anymore and there is no reason to defend the nonsense that people are obviously going through with their installations here in 2006.

Fact is, if they bit the bullet and had their own box, the whole thing could be set up on their end with a little info from the customer.

Not only that, they could detect problems as they happen.

But that means less profit and makes the customer number one.

You have NO argument.

I will buy a piece of equipment from you (guaranteed as you said). My electric service ****, and everytime it quits working I will call you cussing because you make crappy equipment. Even though it is the fault of the electric company, you should know it is all your fault because you made the equipment and it doesn't work. What are you going to do for me?

Why is that any different from a Voip service that depends on the Internet which is controlled by other companies?

I finally admit it, you are right.

There is absoutely no excuse for the nonsense you are going through. With your INTERNET connection!! Fix your friggin Internet / router connection and Vonage will work fine! No argument.
