Is it possible to have one broadband DSL line, and connect 2 Vonage adaptors to it? I am thinking of this setup:
DSL modem --> WRTP54G --> second adaptor (likely VT2442)
The VT2442 would connect on one of the hard wired ports of the WRTP54G.
When a call comes in for the account on the VT2442, is it going to know to be routed there? I suspect I will have to open up some ports on the WRTP54G.
Thanks in advance. |

In theory, this is possible, and I've done it numerous times here, but with RTP300s and PAP2s playing together on the same network. I've seen some reports that the VT2442 isn't quite as friendly when it comes to having other Voip adapters on the network... You might try to get ahold of a PAP2 or other "friendly" adapter if you can. |

Many people have 2 routers working fine. The question is not is this possible, the question is do you have enough bandwidth in your dsl line to handle 2 routers and hence 2 phone lines.
btw, do you already have both lines full in your first router? Otherwise, it might be better just to activate the 2nd line on it instead of getting a second router and thereby complicating the situation.
most home dsl lines have only 256kbps upstream which would really make it difficult with 2 phone lines running at 90kbps each.
i hope this helps, mundy5 |

Thanks for the replies.
I don't need my second line, but we'll need both lines of the new adaptor. To test the bandwidth, I got a temporary second line on my adaptor, and we made 2 voice calls at the same time, and didn't get any choppiness. (Hope this is a valid way to test -- we have 1.5 down/384 up DSL and the vonage-forums speed test said we could support 4 lines.)
I'm needing the second adaptor to serve a computer as well, since I'll be connecting it to a cable that was intended for the PC originally. Looks like this says the other PCs won't be able to see it, but oh well. |
