PostPosted: Sat Jul 22, 2006 6:56 am    Post subject: is there anyway i can setup a vonage home server to do this Reply with quote Back to top

my gf lives in the uk and i call her using Vonage landline and she calls (me) to a virtual phone number in uk and i have call forwarding setup to my cellphone with Vonage unlimited plan.

but if i wanted to call her using my cell phone while travelling, i have to use a calling card or pay 49c/min to t-mobile. is there any way i can call my Vonage home number and dial the UK number, kind of like a typical calling card feature. i have a few computers at home, so it isnt an issue to dedicate a pc for this job solely. i am yet to purchase Vonage service and was wondering if the new softphone can do this easier than interfacing the pc with a Vonage landline......

I am a bit confused. You have Vonage with call forwarding setup to your cellphone, or you have yet to purchase Vonage service?

That is beside the point. One technique that you could try is to log into your Vonage web site and change the forwarding from your cell phone to her UK phone, then call yourself. Just remember to change it back when you're done.

Also, just a quick call to her to ask her to call you back should net T-Moblle only 50˘ a call.

The easy answer is to take your Vonage adaptor with you when you travel. But if you can't or don't have HSIA where you are, then you are out of luck. Unless...

Does your gf use Vonage in the UK? I'm assuming not. But if she did you could use this feature. You may just need a little knowledge of HTML.

The best way is for you to set the call forwarding feature as xnewuser has said in his post. Have it forward directly to your gf's number and you should only be charged for the call to your Vonage line. again, this is not free since you have to pay for the minutes used to call your Vonage line but it sure beats $0.49 per minute. However, if you take your Vonage with you as suggested by brian188 is also a great option. either way, if you have plenty of cell phone minutes, then you can do the call forwarding option. If not, take the adapter with you and stay at a hotel or motel with broadband...
