It would be nice to know that this feature was available just in case. Good idea.

I'll add my vote to the list - this would be a handy feature, for exactly the reasons mentioned.

I also add my hearty vote for this. Just started getting telemarketing calls recently and am not happy about it. No idea how they got my number.

Some telemarketers just dial every number. The hope is a few "cold" calls will be more than just "hot" hang-ups.

I have been asking the folks at Vonage about this concept for over 6 months now. Their response has been very non-responsive so far. The idea that I can block spam e-mail with a simple click and not be able to do the same with my IP phone service in ridicules. Come on Vonage, if want stand out from all the other IP phone services you'll need to give your customers more control over their phone. Because right now you are about the most expensive of them all and you offer nothing more. Confused

This is my request. I could do it with BellSouth. I have had fax machines calling my phone in the middle of the night for nights upon night. I have no way to block that number with Vonage.

Mike Sandman had a device that would trick automatic dialers into thinking your telephone number had been disconnected. I see it is not currently available but may be soon. The web site is http://www.sandman.com/taliban.html . Ignore the top part of the site and go toward the bottom. This device (I am told) works great to block telemarketing calls.
As for the fax tone, you can buy a cheap fax tone detector that will take the fax call and move it to a port that does not have any phone attached.
I know this doesn't solve the problem, but they are workarounds.

Add me to the list! There is a telemarketing company that calls me several times a week - sometimes more than once a day! I'd love to be able to block their calls before the phone even rings. The calls always come from the same number and always show up as "800 SERVICE" on caller ID. This would be a great feature.

Are you registered on the DNC list? If so, report the offending number, any call after 9PM is illegal. If not, register your number and then report the offending number.
