I have found that during my conversations there are times for ~5seconds that I cannot be heard, I can always hear them. I have watched the activity lights on my router and the only connection with activity is the Vonage box. I have checked my upload speed and it is consistantly ~380k. I have also noticed that typically the pauses coincide with a 4 blink, pause on the Vonage box. The manual says that the box is conversing with the servers. I figure this might be a problem because I just hooked up the box, but now after waiting for 1 night, I still have the problem. Also, the only time the 4 blink thing happens is when I'm talking to someone. Ideas before I call tech support? I'm going to call on the Vonage phone so that they can experience the problem first hand Smile

My equipment:
cable modem from RoadRunner (can't remember the brand/model)
Linksys Router BEFSR41
Moto Vonage box

I have the router between the Vonage box and my cable modem.

I have all default settings on the Vonage box.

I've been having this problem too. I can hear the caller, they can't hear me. When I call my Vonage phone from my cell phone, the sound fades, then returns, then fades, etc. Haven't checked the lights on the Vonage box when it's happening.

In the process of playing with this issue, I have found that my original number still works as it has not been transfered yet. However, the callerId sent from the Vonage phone (via the temp phone number) is my "real" number that is still active with SBC. They must be spoofing the callerId.

An update:
I talked with customer support a couple times. First time was to enable port forwarding, made no difference.

Second time, guy says the ports I was told to forward are old, and/or only needed for dual phone line applications. He changed my packet size from 20ms to 30ms, and I changed my codec to medium of 30kb. This has reduced the problem significantly.

One last thing, my cable modem is the Toshiba PCX1100. Seems to be known for its large packet drop problems. When the phone cuts out it is doing a negotiation with the server. I was told this happens only when the phone box looses contact with the server (may be due to packet loss). I guess I'll go swap my cable modem for a new one and see if that fixes it for good.
