What is more important, to have a Vonage type of service at low price or just a "service" at cheap/free price?
Some people ae saying that majority of Vonage customers only care about price.
I got the service for it's features which are somewhat unique to a market at this time.

There are plenty of Voip services out there which are cheaper than Vonage, and other providers with far more features than Vonage, BUT, Vonage has been one of the most reliable providers out there, at least for the the year I've had them so far. There are plenty of things I wish Vonage would change, BUT, they get the essential part right -- the phone calls go through, and for far less than I was paying Cingular.

I agree with VonageTPA about the reliability compared with other Voip providers. The vast majority of problems have to do with your Internet connection and not Vonage.

Given the three choices, I chose the option for all its features. If I had all the Vonage features on a Verizon landline, it would cost be at least twice the price. If only Vonage had anonymous call rejection or better off an equivalent of Verizon's Call Intercept, and outgoing caller ID name, I would be 100% satisified with Vonage's features.

I don't think it is easy to break it down that way. Some people would choose another company but Vonage has numbers in their area, others would choose Vonage but can't get a local number.

Some people with high call volume would be attracted by the unlimited plans, others with low call volume might be attracted by the low price of the $15 plan.

There is certainly a large body of users who want an easy to use phone service with a US number that can be used outside of the country. Many of this same group value the ease of direct dialing international numbers at low rates. However, this large body is probably a small fraction of the total Vonage base.

The important thing for Vonage is to stay focused on being a replacement for traditional phone service. This attracts the greatest number of customers. Some customers will also be attracted by unique features, but many of these items are attempts to get more revenue per subscriber rather than actually attract new customers.

As much as the people on this forum, myself included, really want new and unique features, it does not attract the mass market new customers. All you need to do is look at the Vonage advertising to understand what the majority of customers want. A less expensive replacement for their phone service.

Now we come down to what replacement means. It means using standard phone equipment, having most or all phone company features and having reliable service. The don't want to have to have a computer on to use the phone. They don't want to have to deal with prepaid plans or third parties to get a phone number or to make outgoing calls.

So, saying that the majority of Vonage users only care about price is oversimplifying. Conversely most Vonage subscribers probably don't care about Vonage-specific features. Uh, I feel strongly both ways.
