DON'T DO IT!!! The latency in the upload(your voice) will be so high the other party won't hear you at an acceptable quality, if at all. Believe, you don't want to go there! |

I desperately need a Voip solution for this system. If not Vonage, is there any you can recommend? |

Another problem with VSAT is that there is a ramp up time for the transmit end. It can take up to 10 seconds to reach the full speed. This can cause some issues at the beginning of the call. There are also other factors, Bandwidth on Demand, QoS and whatever else they use to alocate the bandwidth. You will notcie that the call usually gets better after 15 to 20 seconds. It is acceptable in the beginning, but it gets better after then.
The latency is both ways, so it is not that bad. The main issue is when the person answers the phone, the person you are calling, they may say hello a second or two before you can respond. Just as an example, cell can be up to 300ms in latency. 600ms to 750 is good over satellite. As long as it stays constant.
I suggest trying it out. You will never know how it works till you try it out. Just make sure you change the Bandwidth Saver option for Vonage to 30K from 90K. |

Can you explain what this means and how to do it? I haven't a clue. Thanks! |

It just changes the quality of the call. You'll do it once you register by going to Vonage.com > logging in > Features > Configure Bandwidth Saver > 90kbs > Submit. |
