PostPosted: Wed Jul 19, 2006 10:15 am    Post subject: RTP300 power light blinking, no dial tone, will not reset Reply with quote Back to top

My Vonage has been working fine for months. I had a power outage yesterday and when the power came back on my power light on the RTP300 continuously blinks and there was no dial tone. It was connected to a surge protector. None of my other equipment (and I have a lot) was damaged. No lights are on other than the blue power light which blinks continuously.

I contacted tech support and they have told me to do the same thing over and over with no results (mostly power everything down and back on). Every email (6 so far) suggests the same thing. They do not seem to be even reading what I ask. I can't bring myself to call India because I don't have hours to spend on the phone with them. I've had very frustrating experiences with them in the past and can't tolerate trying to make them understand.

The reset button does nothing. Before the outage I remember it used to make the lights all light up. Now when I press it nothing happens. The power light just keeps blinking. It did that the whole night. (They told me to leave it on for an hour and the blinking would stop - 24 hours later and still it is doing this).

My internet is working fine with my Linksys WRK54G but when I tried going online with the RTP300 to reach the setup page it does not connect.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I've also tried connecting the RTP300 directly to my cable modem and no luck. Cannot connect to the setup page and power light just keeps blinking. Been doing this for 48 hours so far and won't reset.

7. Issue you are experiencing ie dropped calls, choppy audio etc
-- No dial tone, unable to make calls. RTP300 unit will not rest and power light just continuously blinks. No other lights on.

You like myself have a fried RTP-300 - [EDIT FOR SYNTAX] DO the four "ethernet" actually LAN lights blink for a bit then stop, then start?

I went thru same situation last night after lightning strike that apparently hit very very close to underground cable tv lines outside my house- actually at the service box for myself and my neighbor. My RTP300 is also fried. I have constant reboot of adaptor ie: all lights bling on a recycle basis which you don't describe.

I spent over 90 minutes with CS India style finally demanding to speak with tier two support and finally got someone in New Jersey.

India CS rep wanted me to send unit in before they would send replacement and this is just not true and totally unacceptable.

Get back with CS and get them to send you a replacement unit. Speak with tier two. BTW this is nothing against the people of India. I have had wonderful experience with Dell India reps. Vonage - I believe and this has been said here - does not train them enough or perhaps give them power to make decisions. The connection audio quality is awful to India especially when you get connected one or two times to someone else.

Yes, the ethernet lights will blink when the unit first starts but then they go dark and stay dark. Only the power button stays on and it blinks continuously.

Apparently their policy is that there was only a 30 day warranty on these routers.

"Cable/DSL Routers provided with Vonage Service in the United States from Vonage carry a 30 day limited warranty. Within the first 30 days, upon customer request and if the original Vonage-provided Cable/DSL Router malfunctions, a new Cable/DSL Router will be sent to the customer and the customer shall be billed for that new Cable/DSL Router. Upon return of the original Cable/DSL Router and after the device has been tested to ensure the device malfunctioned and was not broken, the customer shall be refunded the cost of the new Cable/DSL Router."

I don't really want to buy another adapter. I'm really thinking I'd be better off cancelling this service and having another regular phone line installed. If I add up all the time lost from work on the phone with them, money spent replacing equipment I'd probably have spent less money with a landline. The cheapest phone adapter they have is $49 plus shipping, plus I'm still stuck with their frustrating tech support.

As an update to this - email seems to be a better way of contacting their support.

They are sending me a replacement since this different person now says you are allowed 1 replacement in the first year - a Motorola unit as I did not want the same type of unit to just have the same thing happen.

I did request a cheaper unit - the $49 phone adapter but they said I have to get the same value unit as what I had, which seems strange to me. I really don't need the router and would have rather have had the little D link adapter.

I guess trying a replacement unit beats being charged the $79 for discontinuing service, which I'd have to pay if I cancel. They said they will send me a Return authorization and if they get the defective unit back within 14 days I will not be charged the $79 charge for the new router. I wonder if I will have to pay to ship it back.

Glad it worked out. Next time I will be unplugging adaptor during thunderstorms.

As I said and people will agree - Vonage CS doesnt know what they are talking about. It gets old when you have a dead RTP300 that has been unplugged all night (because of no power) and a CS asks you to turn it off for 30 seconds or try another outlet. It is so obvious they are reading from a list.
