I am a "potential new user" of Vonage and am wondering if anyone has had any problems with their Ceiva frame being able to dial up using Vonage. I've got the DirecTiVo issue covered, but the Ceiva frame is the one last appliance that is bound to the current landline. Want to make sure we've considered everything before making the leap... |

I have a Ceiva2 and a Vonage line (and no landline) and I cannot make it work. I have tried other phone cables, other ports, using Vonage's fax line, contacting Ceiva support (they're worthless for technical issues), checking Ceiva's and Vonage's online support offerings, and searching google and deja. I'm quite disappointed. If anyone finds a way to make a Ceiva frame work on a Vonage line, *please* email me or post it here (I still check periodically).
I know I'm replying to a 3-month old post, but the Vonage Forum was down for months and I could neither read nor post any message.

I know the last poast here was 3 months ago, but I am going nuts trying to figure this connection out. I have a Ceiva frame and I am trying to get it to work over my Vonage line. I found a post on the Ceiva website: http://www.ceiva.com/ccare/hlp/hp/help_vonage.jsp that says that the addition of a Vonage fax line will allow the Ceiva frame to work, but alas, this does not seem to work. Any ideas? Any help? Anyone? |

I have still not had any success getting my Ceiva2 to work on a Vonage line, not even on Vonage's fax line.
I recently started researching devices to convert digital phone lines to analog. Konexx has some devices that looked promising, but their tech support said that, while he was not sure because he had never seen it tested before, he was fairly confident that their devices would not work to enable a Ceiva with Vonage ("Our limited data relative to connection rate and success when connecting through Voip PBX systems shows a poor rate of successful connections and/or low speed connect rates."). Since the device costs around $80, I'm not willing to try it. He recommend, though, another type of device: a SIP analog terminal adapter (ATA). And he suggested the following:
| Quote: | - (Cheap) Grandstream 486
- (Good) sipura 1000 (1 line), 2000 (2 lines), 3000 (1 FXO/POTS, 1 FXS/phone)
- (Common) CISCO ATA-186
|
These devices are also pretty expensive, and so far I can't even tell by their descriptions what they do. Do they plug an analog phone device into a Voip ethernet network with RJ-45? Do I plug them into a Voip phone device with an RJ-11?
Anyone know anything that might help?

I have an original Ceiva frame and for the life of me I can't get it to work with Vonage either.
I don't get it. It's a modem connection. It's JUST NOISE. Beeps. 1s and 0s represented by high tones and low tones. WHY won't the receiver work with it? When I call the number "manually" with my phone, it sounds just like any other modem connection I've ever heard.
What's different? I can't believe I have to maintain plain old telephone service at the extortive rates charged for it just to make my Ceiva frame work! 'cause I won't! |
