if the dmz setting doesn't help, as far as my knowledge on routers is concerned, it is the final step to open all ports toward an ip address.
my suspicion is that you might need to request a new router from Vonage by explaining to them the issues as well as the various solutions you have implemented.
it just seems odd to me that it reacts differently when you receive a call.
One thing we have not considered is to change your port from 1 to port 2 but that would imply that your first phone port is defective and i'd want a new adapter or router/adapter instead of switching ports.
It might however be a good diagnostic to run to demonstrate to the Vonage techs that indeed you have a defective adapter.
it's your call.
hope this helps, mundy5 |

Update (somewhat positive): We found an old corded phone, and it works like a charm. Still no luck with a cordless phone. 2.4 or 5.8GHz. I have yet to find a 900MHz phone to test. |

well that's good to know. I hope that you can find a compatible phone system to use. I personally changed the wireless router's channel to the end of the spectrum to minimize it's potential interference with our cordless phone. It has not been an issue for me. |

Well I'll be dipped. That's the second time this thread has left me scratching my head.
I did see a thread many months ago claiming that some "5.8 GHz" phones were actually 5.8 GHz in one direction and 2.4 GHz in the other. I'd sure like to get a spectrum analyzer on that phone of yours.
Did you ever try using the cordless and temporarily disabling your wireless function? |

I have used Vonage for over a year and recently replaced my 2.4 Ghz phone with a Panasonic 5.8 Ghz cordless phone. Since I setup the new phone, my Vonage service intermittently cuts out during my conversation. When this phone is connected, the problem happens on any phone in my house, which all share a line into the Vonage router. When I connect the Panasonic cordless directly to the Vonage router, the problem occurs. When I remove the phone from my telephone network, everything is fine.
This never occured before. I also have a linksys router connected directly to my cable modem and I connect the Vonage router through the linksys. I have been running like this for a year with no problems and now I can't talk on the phone without annoying everyone that I call. I plan to return this phone, but thought my problem may be relevant to this one. |

Also consider that there are only 3 channels of the 11 available to 2.4GHz 802.11b/g networking that don't overlap, 1, 6, and 11. Your neighbors could also be causing you some issues. Just consider how many unsecured wireless networks are around you and that most devices seem to ship set at channel 6. 1 and 11 may be your best bets.
I haven't had any issues with the Uniden PowerMax 5.8 GHz phones that I picked up from Costco and they work amazingly well. The packaging stated that they specifically wouldn't impact wireless networks. I don't have 802.11a at 5.8GHz to test the claim, but range and throughput testing at work took 802.11a off my short list for a home network. |

The box my phone came in says it is 'Wireless Network Friendly' and that it won't interfere with 2.4GHz routers.
We live in an apartment, so I suppose it could be interference from one of the other tenants. The only other wireless router I can pick up is encrypted on channel 6. |

Try channel 1 and/or 11 on your WRT54G. Even the v.1 WRT54G had the ability to change the wireless channel. You may be able to work around some frequencies that might be conflicting. |
