I am still not ported over for some reason. I did try faxing using the vonage line one time and it did not work.
I guess I better do some more testing before I get rid of the digital phone! |

| Yes, you will have problems faxing from Vonage. It just doesn't work |
That is not true for everyone. I've used a fax line for two years without a single problem. |

Seconded.....Not that I send out a huge amount of faxes, but whenever I have used it for fax it worked great. My TIVO on the other hand was a huge pain in the ass. |

Vonage FAX service works just fine; just dial *99 1 (Area Code) (Phone Number). This includes local service too. |

This *99 thing also worked for me. I am on a Mac using OS X, and I could fax just fine before with my Bellsouth line and my internal fax modem, but could no longer once I switched to Vonage.
I called Tech Support and spent 20 minutes or so with a nice guy who had trouble grasping the idea that I did NOT have an actual fax machine hooked up to my phone line. He had a strong accent, and I had to ask him to repeat a lot of things. Of course, I must have had a a strong accent to his way of thinking, too.
He did a couple of things that didn't work and called me back several times. He was very nice, but I didn't feel like he knew what he was talking about. Too bad I didn't check the forums first, but gee, I didn't even know there WERE Vonage forums. It's not like it's publicized anywhere on the Vonage site.
In any case, the tech guy ended up telling me that it just wasn't going to work for me. I would have to get a Vonage fax line because Vonage wasn't set up for "efax." I said it wasn't "efax" ... blah blah blah ... we just weren't on the same wavelength.
So, after seeing this in the foum, which I found by just Googling my faxing problems, I first put the *99 in the prefix field and the phone number with the 1 in front in the number field. That DIDN'T work. When I put the number all in the phone number field like this:
*99-1-206-555-2121
It worked just fine. I think the tech support people should at least be able to tell people about the *99. Shame on them. |

Anyone have any hints on how to RECEIVE faxes via Vonage? (I'm also on a Mac with OSX and don't have an actual fax machine.)
It was working fine for a while and is now a complete disaster. I'm on a work deadline and only about 50 percent of the faxes are coming through. |
