I just installed my new Vonage system on my RoadRunner cable ISP through time warner.

Currently I am running a digital phone through cable. I want to test Vonage out to make sure it is going to work ok for me before I disconnect the digital phone from Time Warner.

How long will it take to get my old number transferred to Vonage? I am running a home based business and need to get an idea of when the number will be transferred when I request it.

All of my business cards and websites point to my digital phone number. If I disconnect that line from the cable company I must know that the new number will work though Vonage.

Does anyone know how to do this transfer without being totally down on my old number until it switches over?

I just went ahead and ordered my old number on time warner digital cable to be ported to Vonage. I am convinced that everything will work ok. I did the speed test, etc. and everthing worked ok.

They charged me $9.99 to do the transfer. Dang, had I just did it when I signed up it would have been free.

As soon as my number is ported, I am going to order a second Vonage Line. I hope this all works out.

It looks like I am talking to myself here.

Anyway, I put in the request today to port my old number over, did the online form and whola.

When I call people from my Vonage line, the caller id shows up as my old regular phone number. The only problem is that now when I call my old number to check voicemails from the Vonage line, it takes me to Vonage email.

I have to actually select the old line before I can check the emails on that system.

I am hoping for a quick port over so I can order a second Vongage phone line and an 800 number for call hunting.

Time Warner Cable is my existing digital phone carrier. We will see how it goes. Hopefully they will not penalize me for disconnecting the digital cable phone service and put my on a slower cable connection or something.

I will give a status when the thing is ported over.

So far after only one day, I am very impressed with Vonage.

As a Vonage employee, I must reccomend you do not cancel your landline service. Vonage will do it for you. If you cancel your line, there is a chance they could cancel the the transfer and you could lose your number and I would hate for that to happen. In the meantime, Vonage will give you a temporary virtual number or make your old number the virtual number so you can make or receive calls.

Thanks Lithicus for your reply.

I followed Vonage's instructions to a tee.

I did not disconnect my old line and will not do so until my new line is up and working.

I am still very impressed with Vonage. The phone calls are near perfect.

I hope the number change happens quickly so I can order a second Vonage phone line and 800 number so I can do call hunting!
