I'm fairly new to Vonage but have been lurking in this forum for a while doing some research. It seems that there are some known issues with getting Tivo/DirecTivo to work over vonage; not insurmountable issues though. I currently have Dish Network and am using their DVR functionality which needs to dial up once per day (3:00 AM) to get updates for the guide. It also needs to dial up to send PPV info. Does anybody on here have any experience specifically with Dish Network's DVR and Vonage? Do I need to be taking some of the same steps that others have taken to get Tivo to work?
The DVR has a screen where I can test the connection and it comes back successfuly but I'm not sure how accurate of an indicator this is. I believe that the only way that I'll know if it's truly working is to check my guide and make sure that it's still updating.
TIA for any help/advice you can provide.

I have the Dishnet 501 (Tivo equivalent) receiver and it works fine with the dialout and the caller ID feature via the receiver. |

Also, the dishnet guide is downloaded off the satellite-not your phone connection. |

You only need the phone line to purchase pay-per-view. |

Vonage is working great on my Comcast 3MB/s connection. However, my Dish PVR cannot connect to purchase pay-per-view movies.
When I try to call by voice to order PPV, the automated voice asks me if my last four digits are XXXX. No, they're YYYY! It's like it's reading a completely different Caller ID on my main line!
Now, when I call my cell phone or my FAX machine or anybody else's phone, my Caller ID is correct. It is NOT correct, or at least the last four digits read back to me, when I call by voice to order a PPV movie. Dish Network tech on the phone with me for a long time says that the automated service must recognize the phone number as associated with my account. The tech said he could simply put the mythical XXXX number in the system to associate with my account, but there's no way to find out all ten digits.
*sigh*
So, I can't order PPV through the Dish receiver, nor can I order it by phone since switching to Vonage. In all other ways, Vonage has worked great for me.
Any ideas? |

If you have a 5xx series Dish DVR, I had great success with enabling the "wireless jack" setting which slows down the modem. Your bandwidth saver setting should also be 90k
You can't dial the automated PPV ordering number because of how Vonage handles ANI on their 800-number calls. Basically the 800 number you dial gets provided with the ANI of the outbound Vonage trunk, not the caller ID information that gets passed on to most other numbers.
Associating the number that comes up with your account would be a very bad thing. Basically any Vonage customer who dials the Dish PPV number would be able to bill a movie to your account.
Why not order your PPV using the on-line system? |

The problem lies with the newer recievers like the 322 where you have to have it connected to a phone like so you don't get charged the $4.99 a month on a second reciever.I still have yet to make it work with my vonage. If anyone has any suggestions please pass them along,thanks.... |

I am also having problems with my Dish Network receivers.
my DVR 522 trys to call 17 times a day. The duel tuner recievers need to call in to verify their use or you get charged for an extra receiver. Dish Network says I need some kind of converter But I dont think they know what they are talking about. I have a 501 522 and 811 and none of them can make a connection. I am curious if Direct TV and Tivo have the same problems. |

Same problem with my 322.
My understanding is that Vonage is sending a different ANI (Automated Number Identification) which doesn't match your caller id information. Dish Network is looking at the ANI instead of the caller id information which is causing the issue.
I don't think that the problem can be corrected until either DishNetwork looks at some other piece of information or Vonage is able to send the correct ANI. |

Weird, because we have 2 dish 322s and they're both on different lines, never had a problem with that config. |
