Yes to the first. To the second, Vonage will tell you that there is no contract, but there is a discontinuation fee if you leave in less than 1 year. However, the last I heard there was still a one month initial trial period during which you can leave without penalty.
Before signing up, run the forum VoIP test and also run a test call to Boston at www.testyourvoip.com . These will give you a good idea of how well VoIP service will work for you. |

Thanks, Know a few folks with vonage since the start and have never had a problem (actually never had a regualr phone). Then there is my sister-in-law who just cannot make it work. Of course she still thinks the CD tray is a cup holder <G> (bad!). Anyway, Just would like to give a try for a few weeks before I transfer my land line over.
I found the termination of service agreement and it is a 30 day cancel which is fine with me. Did the online test and have Road Runner here in Orlando, have more than enough bandwidth even with all my toys running!
Thanks for the help! I'll be ordering on line!

I just want to make sure you know bandwidth is not the only factor - jitter and packet loss play a huge roll! |

I'm using Road Runner via Bright House cable in Orlando. If your internet service is like mine, you shouldn't have any problem at all. |

Forgot to ask..what equipment are you using..See in your sig you have Linksys products.
Currently I have the typical Road Runner modem (Toshiba PCX2500), connected to a Netgear WGT624 Router. I am looking at the "free" Dlink VTA from Vonage. Is this a good mix or should I consider swapping out my equipment? A better phone adapter for the money? Advantages of using my own modem over RR? My Netgear is starting to flake out so may be a good time to change.
Thanks!

I have a simple setup- Toshiba modem and RTP300. If your router is getting flaky then I'd definitely think in terms of replacing it. If your needs are light but you still need wireless, then you might want to consider the WRTP54G. If you require a more robust router- high volume data transfer, gaming, etc.- then you should probably get a good router and go with the D-link VTA for Vonage. |

I also run a webserver in in my house along with it have my router natted to my servers so I can access via terminal server from the outside world. I can assume that the vonage adapter will sit behind my firewall so it will not interfeer with other ports? Are there ports on the router that can be opened up for vonage service to use.
Thanks again |

The disconnection fee only applies to 90 days now. Also, to see if your old number will transfer go to this link if you are US customer http://www.vonage.com/avail.php?lid=nav_avail. |
