My husband and I have been waiting for almost 8 weeks for Vonage to release our phone numbers to Comcast. Comcast has made numerous unanswered requests to Vonage. When I try to call Vonage they tell me the only way I can communicate with them on this issue is by sending an e-mail to "portout@vonage.com" which, of course, no one answers. The phone numbers we are trying to transfer were originally transferred to Vonage from SBC. We've had these phone numbers for 15 years and one of them my husband uses for his business. The Vonage service is inconsistent and we cannot activate our new home alarm system on a Vonage phone number.
Does anyone have any tips on how to accomplish the number transfer? Thank you |

Vonage **** WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE. They are big money suckers out in the world. we have been trying to port out to sun rocket for 7 months. for whatever reasons Vonage simply refuses to port out our number. Whenever I call cust service they dont answer. After 45 mins of listening to crappy ads and junk music they tell me the problem is with sun rocket which I know for sure not the case. Does any body know there are two differnt names, one for account and service. We tried porting out with both names, nothing works. But Vonage cheats by not showing the service name anywhere in the site. After one year of waiting we are closing the Vonage account. for closing you have to pay calcellation fee of $39.95. We paid $29.95 for activation. Vonage is full of hidden fees. This is so expensive and customer service is not worth for the money we paid. |

I work for Vonage under a outsource vendor. Let me see if i can assist you. During these 8 weeks, have you cancelled your Vonage account? If so, Vonage is only required to hold a number for 30 days. Also, if you have an outstanding balance, they will not transfer numbers out. This is standard rule for any phone service. Also, you may want to find out where the winback is (when you port out a number it is called a winback). They should be able to read the status. As for Vonage holding the number, this is incorrect. Technically SBC, Vonage, and Comcast do not own numbers. What do I mean? Well, numbers are leased out through a CLEC. A CLEC is Competetitive Local Exchange Carier. Vonage, SBC, and Comcast are only LEC's which mean they purchase leases for trunks of numbers from CLECS. This is information that the public typically does not know and most phone companies make a strenuous effort not to reveal it. CLEC's are responsible for porting numbers, transferring calls from Voip to pstn and they run the gateways back and forth. They also configure routing tables. Also, CLECS will verify information and only contact Vonage if there is a question or issue. Vonage comunicates directly through to their CLEC through their lnp department. Trust me, Vonage works with 8 other CLECS and if there is a problem. The problem is transferring from one CLEC to the next. The transfer does take a minimum of 20 business days on slow CLECS. When you get mad at Vonage for porting, it is really the CLEC you should get mad at. Try this, go to this nextel website and you can see which CLEC owns your number and then i twould be a good idea to contact them to see if you can get things moving.http://nextelonline.nextel.com/NASApp/wnp/en/Action/PECLanding |

Lithicus, Thank you for your response. No, our Vonage accounts have remained active and all payments made which I understand I must do until the port out occurs. I checked the Nextel site and they say our numbers can be ported out and the complany listed is Focal Comm Corp. I've gone to their website and at least have found a phone number but of course it's too late to call tonight. My sense, though, is that they will only deal with the phone companies, not me, but I'll certainly try. I just don't understand why it took only three days to port from SBC to Vonage and 8 weeks and counting to port from Vonage to Comcast. Sally |
