I went out and bought a PAP2 at a retail shop (already had Cox in Phoenix with a Linksys WRT54GS), then signed up w/ Vonage yesterday.
Well, they didn't present anywhere, that I saw, to use your own device.

So I went ahead and ordered the Motorola device, as I don't trust D-Link.
I called Tech support last night and gave them my MAC ID. Was told that it'd take a few hours and then I should see the phone LED light up and be good to go.
Still nothing going on today other than a voice telling me that my phone may be plugged intot he wrong phone port.
I've set the PAP2 with a static IP in the DHCP range of my network (high enough to never get hit with duplicate IP), as well as the other IP config settings.
I've setup the port forwarding in the 54GS.
Still nothing.

So I called tech support back...
"You have two options: wait for the Motorola to get there and it'll work, and you can also then register the PAP2 to replace the Motorola we're sending you. Or cancel this account and open a new one. I'll help you through that and I hope that the billing department won't charge you for a cancellation fee."
To which I asked if I was going to get back the $42 they've already charged me on an account that I can't use. No answer.

Huh?
Last night I'm told that it'll take only a couple of hours to activate, then i get that it'll take up to 2 days, then I get told that I have to wait for the other device to get here?!?!?!?!?!?!

Awww, c'mon. It can't be that difficult!

Sounds all messed up, but you might try this:

Go to Retail Activation (http://www.vonage.com/retail_subscribe/)

(This is what you were looking for in the first place, but seems they've made it hard to find now!)

You will have two options, one is activate a new account and the other is "Add a Vonage retail device to my account".

Try going that route and see what happens if you try to add your retail PAP2 to your account.

PS - You're right, it should not take anything like this long. I was making and receiving phone calls within 20 minutes of walking in my door with my retail PAP2.

Did you assign a Static Route to the PAP2's IP?

What am I missing here? Why would he need to create a static route? My PAP2 has a static IP, but there was no need for me to create a static route.

You might not be missing anything. I'm not a network guru, but I've had a few headaches with servers (print, intranet, internet) not being able to get to the net (sometimes the network) while using static IPs. Because of those I've made it a point to do it whenever I set a static IP, but it may not be necessary.

Every time I power cycle the PAP2, it reverts back to DHCP. So I set it to an IP address that it will always get (due to the number of devices on my network and their activity).
But it is still not working.
