Can I port my efax number into a dedicated fax line?

I have had a local efax number for years but it is expensive. I would like to keep the number. Is it possible to port efax numbers into Vonage's dedicated fax service. I'd even be willing to first port it into the voice service and then switch it over. Any ideas would help.

If you ported your number into eFax originally, then you may port the number back out as long as you are a customer in good standing. Only numbers that have been ported into eFax can be ported out. If you signed up for eFax and were provided with a number without porting your number in, that number cannot be ported out.

My suggestion would be to attempt to port it. We found out in the early Vonage days that some numbers that weren't supposed to be portable really were. Just keep your eFax account active. One problem is I don't see how to port a number as a fax number at Vonage. When I go through the process of adding a fax line it wants to assign a new number. You may need to work with customer service.

You should be able to port it as a voice number with out any problems. just dont mention that it is a e-fax number when you talk to CS. They are programmed to say No
