I am very keen to make Vonage work as the functionality is very impressive. It worked just fine for 3 days with pretty good quality on both ends of every call. Then suddenly, with nothing changed at my end, the system is unusable - for both me and the person I am calling we can here only bits of words, no whole words at all. This happens whether I make or receive the calls. I have spent much time with Vonage technical help. Their only suggestion was that my ISP turns off "interleaving" which is some sort of turbo-boost, apparently, for my broadband.
Now what? I cannot understand why the system would have worked just fine for 3 days and then suddenly become unusable. I should be grateful for any suggestion of what else could have caused the sudden problem.
My technical information is that I have 8Mb broadband from BT Yahoo in the UK. I use a SpeedTouch 570 router. The router has only one ethernet outlet and so the Vonage box is connected to this through an ethernet hub made by D-Link, DE-805TP. Note that plugging the Vonage box direct into the router makes no difference to the problem.

How about if you plug the Vonage box directly into the modem, eliminating the router all together?

You have a QoS of 7% according to the Voip test. I'm not sure what the significance of that is, though it appears related to delays. Please run a comparison test at www.testyourvoip.com and post the detailed results.

Thanks for replying. The SpeedTouch 570 is both router and modem and plugs directly into an ADSL phone socket on the wall. I don't think I can plug the Vonage box into that.

Your packet discards are awful in both directions, especially on the uplink, as you would expect. Remove the Vonage box from the setup and plug your computer directly into the router. Repeat the test. If the results improve dramatically, then we need to look at the Vonage box as a problem source. If they don't (which is what I'm betting), then you need to work the problem with your ISP (including the modem/router as an ISP issue).

Audio issue could be due to master firewall in speedtouch 570. you can try disabling the firewall to see if it works.

With the help of Speedtouch, I have bypassed the firewall so that the Vonage box now goes straight to the modem part of the 570 without going through the router part.
The calls are still unusably choppy.
My ISP has done what it calls a line test and says there is no problem - but to be honest, I am dealing with a call centre which seems to be working from instruction manuals with staff who have no technical knowledge - so I don't know how reliable their line test is or what it picks up.
I have rerun the www.testyourvoip.com test and here are the new results. Further ideas and suggestions would be much apprecited , Thanks !

Have you tried the re-test with the Vonage box completely removed from the setup?

Having turned off everything including the router overnight and having restarted this morning, one item at a time, I now have a usable Vonage phone with far quality, hoorah ! I guess the bypass is now working.
Many thanks for your help identifying the router as a likely cause !
I ran the testoyurvoip again this morning and got the results pasted below. It said "as bad as a crummy cellphone call" but it is actually a fair bit better than that. Does the testyourvoip still go through the router firewall? Is that why the test would show a worse result than I am now getting?
Any tips on enhancing the sound quality further would be much appreciated.
I remain very grateful for your excellent help

You may be marginally satisfied with the results you're getting today, but I doubt that it will stay that way with the level of discards you're getting. I strongly suspect that you have an issue that needs to be worked with your ISP. To verify that, you need to repeat the Voip test with the Vonage adapter removed and your computer plugged directly into your modem/router.
