I desperately need to put my VT1000 adapter behind my router so that I can VPN into work (adapter doesn't support VPN pass through). My phone service has been rather good with the VT1000 in front of the router, so I am hesitant to mess with this too much. I can only get one IP address from Roadrunner, so I can't just leave the router behind the adapter and turn off DHCP/NAT on the VT1000.
Here is the setup I am trying:
1. Cable Modem >> Netgear RP614v2 Router >> VT1000 adapter and multiple PCs and WAP devices (individually hard wired to Netgear)
2. I have set the VT1000 to obtain an IP address dynamically
3. I have reserved an address on the Netgear for the VT1000
4. I have forwarded and enabled the following ports to the reserved VT1000 address (192.168.0.xxx) > 5060-5061 > 53 > 69 >10000-20000 > 123
5. I have disabled SPI firewall on the Netgear WAN setup
6. Unplug all devices and plug them back in: Modem > Router > VT1000
******************** After completing these tasks, I log into the Netgear to see how things are doing, and I see all my attached devices working fine including the VT1000. PCs can access Internet, VT1000 has grabbed the pre-assigned IP address - everything looks like it should (to my eyes anyway). I test the phone and NOTHING!
I have searched the forums and Googled until I'm blue in the face and haven't found a clue yet as to why my setup is not working. What am I missing or doing wrong? What other data do you need to know to help me? What do I need to do to troubleshoot my setup?
Thank you in advance for the help |

Well, it's working fine now. I disabled all of the port forwarding I was doing and turned on the plug n play feature then rebooted everything and after everything came back up it suddenly worked. I looked at the summary list of ports that were being requested, however the only items in the list were pointing to one of my PCs (a few unassigned ports for MS Messenger) - none for the IP address for the VT1000.
Seems odd to me that no ports seem to be open via the UPnP feature for the Vonagae service, but it works. My only concern now is that ports are open on the router that I can't see. Is it possible that the Vonage service will work without having these ports opened on the router? |

I did the same thing you did for the same reason, but my DI604 worked with all the factory settings. No setup required.

in fairness another solution would be to put the Vonage box in the dmz.. i doubt someone's going to hack it.. then again, who knows! |

I'm having a similar problem - the VT1000 has worked fine behind my router (LinkSys RV042) for over a month but quit working this past weekend. If I move it in front of the router I lose VPN access. I have the VT assigned a static IP in my network and have DNS pointed to my local domain and to my ISP's DNS. The VT identifies (3 blink pattern clears), but hangs on registering (stuck in 4 blink pattern). Any suggestions?

Hey all,
Just incase you need to know, the VT1000 does support VPN passthrough. The reason it may appear not to support it could be caused by your private network and your company's network using the same subnet. If only you could change the subnet on the VT1000, you might see what I mean. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to change it from 192.168.102.x. If anyone can prove this statement false, please do so. I would like to know.
