I have been using Vonage's voicemail on Linux for quite awhile. At some point (last year, maybe?) the voicemail WAV files quit working with XMMS. I was able to play them in kaboodle on my laptop, but now I am spending more time on my office PC and can't find a player under Mandrake 9 that can play it. Was there a CODEC change? Do I need to upgrade my libwav or install a plugin that can deal with Vonage wav files?
Thanks in advance, --Terry |

Thanks in advance, --Terry | I use Xine, with all the essential codecs from MPlayer. You may just need the codecs, tho.
Get the codecs from http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/news.html and goto downloads. Get the essential codecs, extract them to /usr/lib/codecs, then symlink /usr/lib/win32 to that. Example: | Code: | | ln -s /usr/lib/codecs /usr/lib/win32 |

Thanks CW. I think my version of mplayer is too old to support the "essential codecs" download. I could not get it to work with xine/mplayer. However I did find a nice utility called sfconvert. It is a part of the audiofiles package from some of the guys who used to be at SGI. It will convert the file to a regular WAVE file. Also I used sfinfo to determine the codec.

From what I have researched, XMMS is not going to support the G.711 codec.
I was able to get a player to work that is acceptable. I have RealPlayer (realplay) installed and it plays them just fine.
Again, thanks for ya'lls help.
