Thought I would reply, even though I haven't been back to this (or the TivoCommunity) forum in a while.
I posted a bit on the subject, a while back, on not being able to dial out. It seemed, since the newer "C" update was released, I was unable to complete a connection. I kept forcing the dialup and it wouldn't complete. I bought a USR external modem, which seemed to help... but it still wouldn't complete a dialup... until one day. After, jeez, maybe 15-20 attempts, it completed a connection and download... I rebooted and it installed the new update. There was no apparent reason... it just seems it finally worked. Since then, about 98% of the calls succeed.
I have a Hughes DirecTivo box, which sits around 10' away from a phone jack. Instead of keeping it connected with the cord run across my floor, I just connect once a week (or a couple times a month) and force a dial in to do what it needs to do. Maybe you should just connect it to the phone jack when you need to dial in, then disconnect and do it again in a week or so. It doesn't NEED to be connected 24/7.
Just a thought. |

Here's my final recap:
THE PROBLEM: After plugging my Tivo into my Vonage line, dozens of mysterious calls to 411 started to appear in my Vonage activity to the tune of 6-10 calls a day (all at cost of 99c each!). The Tivo was indeed causing the interference, and thus all of the fees.
THE SOLUTION: No help from either Vonage or Tivo, both blame each other. Since the DirecTIVO cannot use the USB adapter without majoring hacking, I was unable to have my Tivo use my DSL line directly or try another modem. Thus I tried a DSL line filter in reverse and that has fixed the problem. My Tivo now has problems dialing out, but one out of every 3-4 tries makes it and I can keep my Tivo plugged into Vonage without a problem.

Just a little note... if you think Voange and Directvio Users have problems now, wait till Tivo releases their next software update, 6.1 Tivo wont work with Voange at all in this software update. |

You're making the flawed assumption that DirecTivos will actually get a software update. We're still waiting for anything other than v3.1.1. DirecTV will begin phasing out Tivo for their own DVR long before any new updates come down the pipe.
Sad... but true. |

Here's a tidbit for you that I learned. There is no need whatsoever for the Direct Tivo to make a phone call. Your program guide is updated over the satellite. Mine hasen't made a call in months.
The only real issue here is you won't be able to order pay per view movies and you won't be able to update the tivo software. But if it's working fine then who cares. |
