Hi,

I have tried installing VT2442 with BSNL broadband, but it doesnt work. Neither can i browse throught net nor there is dial tone in the phone. Also the phone LED does not switch on, the power LED keeps on blinking. Since this is being used at home, these is no routers attached.

I have done exactly as the manual says but yet it doesnt connect.

Could anyone please let me know if BSNL broad band is compatible for Voip usage.

Thanks,
Preethia

Have you tried searching the forums for BSNL? This has been discussed many times.

Does BSNL use a PPPoE connection? If so, do you have it configured?

Initially I had the same problem. I was able to connect when I enabled DHCP on the DataOne modem. Access your modem by typing ip address on the browser and from there you will be able to enable DHCP.

I have a similar problem. I have set up the DSL/modem router so that DHCP is enabled. I have SmartAx 882 huawei product.
The 882 is set up for PPOE and to be always on.

It seems that people have had this problem before, but I cannot figure out the exact answer.

From my laptop connected to ethernet port 1 on the VT2442 it tells me that the WAN line is disconnected. How do I go about debugging this ?

Hi,

Initially I too had the same problem. But as Mr. Bengalooru rightly said, after enabling the DHCP on the DataOne modem now I am able to browse net as well use Vonage modem simultaneously.

The Data one modem can be accessed by typing the ip address on the browser and then you can enable the DHCP on it.

But the quality of our voice transmission over net is more dependant on the bandwidth of our internet service.

When we talk about the bandwidth, we need to take both upstream as well as the down stream bandwidth in to account.

Generally the bandwidth mentioned by all ISPs in their marketing documents will mean only the down stream band width and not upstream bandwidth.

i.e., is when they say that they provide a 256 Kbps broad band, it means that their downstream bandwidth is 256 Kbps and not the upstream band width.

When the downstream is more, we will be able to hear the voice of other end person very clearly. simillary for him/her to hear our voice clearly, we need to have a better upstream bandwidth.

Currently I get only 64Kbps upstream through my BSNL Data one connection and hence, the other side person is not able to hear my voice clearly. On the other hand I am able to hear his voice very clearly. this is because my downstream bandwidth is 256 kbps.

I have checked up this modem with one of a private providers in the city, where for a 256kbps broad band connection they give 240 kbps downstream and 170kbps upstream connection. The modem worked very fine with that the voice clarity was also too good.

So, please check up the upstream bandwidth first , to make use of the modem.

Regards,
Thamizh
