Whenever I place a phone call, the person I call can hear me fine and I can hear them fine. The problem is when someone calls me the audio quality is pathetic. The person who's called can barely hear me and I sometimes am unable to make out their words because the audio quality is so terrible. I normally have to hangup and call them back in order to carry on a conversation.
Here is my Voip Environment:
1) San Diego, CA 2) Cox Communications - Cable 3) 6000 Kbps Download / 512 Kbps Upload 4) Linksys BEFCMU10 v2.0 5) Motorola VT2442 6) Cable Modem--->Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router---->Vonage Adapter 7) Incoming calls are too garbled to understand. Outgoing calls sound fine. 8) Speed test statistics --------------------- Download speed: 5086920 bps Upload speed: 501040 bps Quality of service: 99 % Download test type: socket Upload test type: socket Maximum download pause: 15 ms Average download pause: 6 ms Minimum round trip time to server: 89 ms Average round trip time to server: 90 ms
Voip test statistics -------------------- Jitter: you --> server: 3.5 ms Jitter: server --> you: 8.3 ms Packet loss: you --> server: 0.0 % Packet loss: server --> you: 0.0 % Packet discards: 0.0 % Packets out of order: 0.0 % Number of supported Voip lines: 6 Estimated MOS score: 4.0
Any help would be appreciated. |

There's nothing in your Voip test to suggest a problem. What happens if you plug the VT2442 directly into the modem?
Is there a 2.4 GHz cordless phone in this mix? That can cause interference with the WRT54G and cause all kinds of weird problems. |

Negative... I've switched over all my phones to 5.4GHz because I used to get kicked off the Internet whenever I answered the phone.
On Wednesday the 5th of July, I spend about 4 hours on the phone with Vonage Tech Support in India and 2 more hours with a couple of guys in New Jersey. They've been having me switch between the 1st and the 2nd phone jacks on my Vonage Adapter, changing the size of my packets, and several other tweaks that I've not been educated on (yet). Today, I spent another hour and a half on my cell phone talking to a nice girl in India, but all efforts still yield no clear audio on incoming calls. The problem will sometimes subside, but will return as soon as I've forgotten that there was a problem.
I am on the verge of terminating this failed relationship with Vonage and returning to the old, more expensive, with fewer features but, much more reliable telephone company. |

The only reason I wrote that they were in India, was because when I asked, "What country are you in?", the girl responded, "India."
Maybe she was mistaken. |

India is what several support people told me. It is my policy to always ask where the person is when calling technical support for any company. If they have a heavy dialect which is hard to understand, I always ask for a translator. |

I hope that this helps, Steve |
