Scott, One possible news story idea -- find out how many incoming cell calls your 911 center can receive at once. I found out that a local county 911 center here could only receive 3 cell calls simultaneously. For an area of 550,000 people, that's not a lot. A little investigation and 3 minute package on the 6pm quickly resolved that issue. Might be the same situation up there.

It never occured to me that cell calls might be limited, other than by the number of dispatchers on duty.
Right now, cell calls get funneled through the state police, while landlines go directly to dispatch. They are fixing that with a large upgrade, but I'll ask the question you raise.
CAPE CORAL: Between 5,000 and 7,000 residents are without phone service in Cape Coral after a telephone line was cut at Del Prado and 36th Terrace. Crews are working to restore service, but say it may not be restored until Monday.
A contractor is believed to have cut the cables Thursday around 4:30 p.m.
"Our crews are working as fast as they can and investigating the situation. The repairs are hampered by the rain in the area," said Michelle Pinneau of Embarq.
Service is not expected to be restored until Monday.
Glad to see that while the name has changed, the same Sprint "service" is unchanged. I don't think any of the major Voip providers has had an outage last THIS long. Even Broadvoice & Nuvio, which are both known to be unstable, have never been down THAT long.
