Vonage has been working great the past year, however in the past week or so my audio has gone choppy. The choppiness occurs in both directions

Try disabling the SPI firewall on the WRT54G for testing purposes and see if that resolves the issue.

Your cable connection, you say is 8 down and 768 up, but those are advertised speeds. What are your REAL speeds? I highly doubt you're getting those.

I run a bandwidth test to pcpitstop.com and come up with those speeds most times.

Is the SPI firewall- just the normal firewall that is on the WRT54G?

In that case, WOW great speeds! Seems to be very optimal. Shouldn't have choppy audio issues unless it's caused by something else.

The SPI firewall is the regular firewall that's on it when you select on the "Security" and then "Firewall" tab.

Is your phone plugged into the device directly? Or into home wiring?

Plugged into house wiring. So I will unplug house wiring when I get home and just connect phone directly to Vonage adapter.

How about latency issues?

Even if you have great speeds there may be packet loss that could be causing your choppy audio. You can do a "ping -t" or one of the many online ping tests to see if you are losing any packets or if you have high latency.

Another reason could be heat. If your device is somehow blocked from normal airflow it can also cause choppy audio also.

I have had Vonage since April 06 and have had bad connections the entire time. I have switched phones, changed bandwidth saver settings, (from highest to lowest with no noticable change), separated the cable modem and Voip router buy 6 feet, plugged the phone directly into the Voip router, and still experience terrible to no voice quality on both ends. Several calls with Vonage CS and Comcast CS have given me no real help. Just the expected speed checks, traceroutes, and the "it must be the other guys problem" solution. Comcast CS will be here tomorrow to check my service.

Currently my setup is
SB 5100 modem-->
LinksysRTP 300-->
CPU
No wireless devices are in the same room as the computer.
I ran the updated Voip speed test and have all green #s
6.12 down
367 up
QOS 96%
Jitter 4
packet loss 0
Any thing you can think of would be greatly appreciated before I set this entire set up on fire.

To any of the people experiencing Comcast probs... how is your TV signal? Fuzzy? Lines going through the picture? There's a modem access screen, but I don't recall the specific address. I believe it's http://192.168.100.1/

I don't deal with residential cable internet too often.
