For the most part, I'm happy with my service. I actually think the call quality is better than AT&T CallVantage. But one issue that I'm having is that every time my Motorola VT2442 router loses power or is reset, I lose all the custom configuration changes that I've made. Everything comes up with the factory default settings. So I'm losing custom LAN settings, username/password settings, port forwarding settings, remote logging settings, etc.
I called customer support last night and wasted time talking to somebody in India who really didn't understand the issue. She asked me to reset the router by holding the reset button in for a minute. Big surprise, but that didn't work. So then I was transferred to level 2 support and talked with somebody who seemed more knowledgeable. He told me there was a "known issue" and that I just have to hit the save button 5 times. It was late, so I thanked him and hung up. Well, I tried it and it didn't work. So can somebody expand on this "known issue" for me? Is this a problem with the router itself? Should I expect it to be fixed with a software update? Does Vonage automatically update the software or is it up to the end user to do this? Are there any other tricks I can try to get my router to remember the custom settings? |

I had seen those posts in a search but was looking for a better explanation. Well, here's the word from the horse's mouth... I talked with somebody on the design team at Motorola and he acknowledged that there is a Javascript error on the web interface that prevents the settings from being saved when using Firefox. He tells me that if I were to use Internet Explorer, it should work every time. I'm not sure where this business of "click it 5 times" came from.
Motorola is working on a firmware update that will resolve this issue. I will try it when I get home tonight and post whether it worked or not. |

That's click it at least five times. I made up the number.
I don't know if it helps get the data get to non-volatile memory or not, but it's quick and easy to click.
Even with IE it can take a few attempts before the settings become permanent.
Your mileage may vary.

I tried it with Internet Explorer and it worked just as it should. I didn't bother trying to click Save multiple times. It worked the first time for me. So... problem resolved. |

By the way... I hear we can expect a firmware update by the end of July with the Firefox fixes. |
