1. Marietta, GA 2. Comcast Cable 3. 6.29Mbps/369kbps 4. RCA DCM315 5. Linksys WRTP54G 6. Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC
7. The cable modem and the Phone adapter were recently replaced due to an electrical storm that appears to have taken both offline. Since the replacement, the internet and the Voip work great. The problem is I seem to lose my internet connection at least once per day; this usually occurs when the PC goes into standby for a while. When I wake the PC back up and try to access the internet, it is unable to connect to anything. I have tried resetting the cable modem and the phone adapter but to no avail. I am able to ping the adapter (192.168.15.1) and I still have phone service - just no internet. The only thing I've found that works is completely rebooting the PC. Then everything works just great - until the next time.
Can anyone shed some light on what is causing this to happen and if there's anything I can do to prevent it in the future?
Thanks.

One of two things are seemingly happening here.
1. The router portion of the WRTP54G is malfunctioning. That usually isn't the case because if anything were to malfunction, it would be the voice portion. But that probably isn't the case also because if only rebooting the computer resolves it, then the issue is AFTER the router.
2. The PC is losing it's IP address and it has to be renewed (which is what happens every time it reboots).
For #2, can you go to Start, Run, CMD. And type in ipconfig /release. Then type in ipconfig /renew. Then see if you can go online. Make sure you completely close the browser and reopen it. If you can, then your computer is losing it's IP address. Could be caused by the software or the NIC card malfunctioning.
I highly doubt (from your description) that it is the Vonage router. If you were losing the IP address on the router, then that's something else. But if all you do to resolve the issue is to reboot the computer, then the problem is after the router. (Especially if you're still able to use your Voip phone). |

Note that the OP said that her Voip phone still worked during the issue, thus there is still an Internet connection. UDP/SIP traffic going through the modem 99.999% means that all other traffic can go through too. |

Thanks for the replies. I'll try the IP release and renew the next time this occurs - most likely later today. |

Sounds like a computer issue - you state that this happens when computer goes to stand-by. Try turning that off
control panel - power options - all three options should be set to never. Standby is really only needed for a laptop on battery.
Other possibilities include updating driver for NIC or NIC hardward problem. The card is losing ip from router when computer goes to standby. |

I've seen the same problem before with XP coming out of standby. Turn it off, as bg4 stated. and see if you ever get the same indications. Instead of using standby, you could tell the computer just to turn the monitor off after a certain time, and make the hard disk spin down after like 4 hours. This way, it still gets a break. |
