Hello,
lately when placing calls the party i'm calling says that i fade in and out and at other times they cannot hear me at all. Comcast was out here yesterday and they said all my line levels look good...I was wondering if anyone here had some suggestions for me to try...

ISP - Comcast (Massachusetts)
Router: Linksys BEFSR41
Cable Modem: Surfboard SB5100
Phone Adapter: Linksys PAP2

I've tried to run the VIoP test a few times and it keeps saying unable to preform test I've tried a few other line tests and back with little (<5% PL) or none at all...So i'm a litle boggled at the QoS #...

Try the test at testyourvoip.com (preserving sound quality to Boston).

You may also want to post your browser, OS and Java version so that the site test can be debugged. You may also want to click on the detailed information link on the advanced tab.

Home wiring? Where is the phone plugged into?

For testing purposes, can you disable the built in firewall of your router? See if that resolves the issue. Also, does it affect inbound calls? Outbound calls? Both?

Those are weird looking Voip statistics. No number for packet loss you to server, no number for MOS score, and 100% packets out of order. All that with no discards! If you have the test number (given, I think, on the speed tab) you might want to post this in the ongoing New Voip Test thread at the top of the forum.

Phone > PAP2 > Router (total cable distance 3ft.) even swapped in a brand new cable.

I tried both connected to router as well as directly from the modem > pc to test with the same results. I disabled everything on my side before testing. It only seems to be affectng outbund calls...

Your test scores are great. How about the phone itself? Any possibility of a problem there? Is it a cordless? If so, is your router a wireless?

How often does this happen? If it's infrequent, it would be good to try to get a test right after it occurs. Do you hear any problems on your end?

Thanks Steve48,

I'd say if i'm on the phone for an hour it happens maybe 2x, and the person i'm calling says i fade for 5-10 seconds. The only time i hear a problem is when my phone is about to change channels. It will fade for a second the phone will beep indicating channel change then crystal clear again.

The phone is not that old it's a Panasonic 2.4ghz Digital model KX -TG2216. I read a few other threads about the 2.4 and it seems to affect wireless networks more then hardwired.

The router is not wireless, distance from modem / phone adapter > phone base is about 3 feet.

The cordless should be OK since you don't have wireless. Nevertheless, if you can try a simple corded phone for a few calls it would eliminate the phone as a candidate villain.

Early on in my Vonage career my vt1000 had al kinds of weird problems.

My test scores were great - everything looked fine but yet my calls experienced cutout, fades and drops.

Finally as a last resort Vonage sent me a new adapter and viola! Everything was fine.
