Not to be sarcastic, but from most of the posts here I was expecting one he** of time getting this stuff running.

I setup everthing to my wireless network, forwarded/disabled/disconnected POts line at demark, plugged the Moto in, powered on, set Moto static IP and was making and receiving calls within 15 min.

My setup:

Cable -> Netgear 614> Moto
<wireless>

Over one hundred minutes of calls, in and out today, three transfers 24 voicemail messages. Great quality, no delays. In fact I am ready to port my number and terminate my POTS. Very Happy

Now. Ahem. (cough). Eek
What in heck am I missing? Did I do something wrong? Is this thing gonna blow up tomorrow and make my wife and kid think they are in a third world country because they dont have a phone? Pick Nose [Heaven forbid...]

I hope nothing does go wrong, I just want to be prepared for the worst.

If everything is working fine... Then everything will work fine. If anything should happen it would only be to the effect of temporary 2nd world country.
If anything does happen and you tried everything you could think of, Try to email or call Vonage.

...and another thing.... customer service!

Everything I have read was not exactly positive, but I called them about some sign up offers I saw here (free activation or 1 month free) and asked why couldn't I get a discount too?

Seante in customer service (2 [yes two] minutes on hold) offered me a prompt credit! In fact, before I hung up it was on my account page. Now that is service.

I was just posing a rhetorical question really... I see all of these problems and I didn't have any. It's kinda strange to a jinx like me... anything I touch with computers takes one week to get the bugs out.

Thanks to the early adopters (I consider myself one) for working out and living through the hard times. Now new customers get to benefit from our past pain.

Part of it is that many of us are so obsessed with it that we're offering a super-critical appraisal. That, and we like to tinker with things. I mean, people are posting because there isa slight delay after dialing a number using 7 digits. This fien-toothed comb approach is NOt what most phone companies are subjected to. But Vonage promised to "redefine the industry" so naturally, we're interested in seeing how it well they're doing it.

Personally, I'm pretty satisfied with my Vonage service. Occasionally, a call suts out for a second, but most of the time the caller on the other line doesn't even notice. Bottom line: if your ISP is decent, nobody but you will know your using an alternative phone service . It's kind of like Suave in that sense--but you get lots of free perks too-- services that you normally get nickel-and-dimed for.

The setup IS easy. I wouldn't sa it takes less than 5 minutes. But it's not complicated, labor-intensive, or painful. You just have to wait for your modem to boot up, etc.

The only thing you're missing, sdstuckey, is expensive POTS service!

Well, thank you all for your frank appraisals. The line cut out once on my wife today.... Eek

Honestly, I think it all went so well because I did my homework for once and read almost every message in this forum before I started to set everything up.

Thank you all so much for your information and time. I hope to be one of the gurus one day and carry on the message.

Note to new users (like myself) - take your time, know your equipment, gather your knowledge then proceed.

Hmmm, sounds like what grandfather told me about women....

It is so nice to hear of another person having a totally positive experance with Vonage. Just be careful about posting too many positive things or you will be labeled a "Vonage Chearleader". Right Moto and Gary? LOL Also, good job on doing your homework. I think that the number of negitive posts could be cut in half (at least) if people would just read carefully through Vonages Webpage and check out this forum. Welcome aboard. Very Happy
