I have the 500 Minutes $14.99 Plan and will be traveling to Croatia and Scotland this month so I was thinking of getting the Softphone for a month.
When in Croatia or Scotland and calling back to the US I assume it just uses the 500 extra minutes I get with the smartphone but what if I call Croatia or Scotland.
I know if you have the unlimited base plan you get free UK calling. If I switched to the unlimited plan would it make any difference when calling the UK from the smartphone?

The SoftPhone doesn't get an extra 500 minutes. It only gets 500 minutes. Call from your SoftPhone to Croatia and Scotland would be billed as international calls and would not count against your 500 minutes. If you want to get unlimited minutes then you might want to look into adding a line with the new v-phone usb product. That will cost you $25/month. At that point your calls to Scotland non-mobile numbers would be included in your plan. Calls to Scotland mobile numbers and Croatian numbers would still be international calls. You also have the option, I believe, of getting a UK virtual number |

So my base plan includes 500 minutes, then I add the softphone and the time I use on there counts againts my plan minutes. I thought the $9.95 incudes 500 minutes of softphone use plus you still have your 500 normal plan minutes. |

If you have the 500 minute plan, and you add a SoftPhone, you will have 500 minutes for use with your adapter and 500 minutes to use with your SoftPhone. They are not combined. That is you can't use 1000 minutes on your SoftPhone and 0 minutes on your adapter or 850 minutes on your adapter and 150 minutes on your SoftPhone. In the first case you would be charged for 500 overage minutes on you SoftPhone, in the second you would be charged 350 overage minutes on your adapter. I don't think, in your case, it matters, unless you are planning on placing over 500 minutes in calls to non-mobile UK numbers since international calls are billed at low international rates and don't count against your minutes. |

Thats for the replays.
One more clarification...
Even if I switch to the unlimited base plan I still would only have 500 minutes of softphone usage. So even if I called UK and it was part of the plan that only applies to the base plan not the softphone.
Also how are incoming calls handled on the softphone do those count against your 500 minutes or are those free, in that case I can just call someone and have them call me back and answer on my softphone while on the UK.
Thanks! |

Incoming calls are not counted against your minutes on any Vonage rate plan. No fees are applied for outbound toll free, Vonage to Vonage, and incoming calls.
The only exception to this rule is if you have a Toll Free Plus number on your account. Incoming calls to your Vonage Toll Free Plus number are charged after you have exceeded your monthly minutes. Click here for more information about Vonage Toll Free Plus. |
