Post subject: VT2442 will not port forward 36222 (virtual server)
In McKinney, TX using Comcast cable modem connected to VT2442 router (192.168.2.1) to PC with reverse proxy server at 192.168.2.40:36222.
The
VOIP
phone, internet browsing and all else works great.
However, I can't is open a port to a static address on my LAN.
Before I got the VT2442, I used a SMC 7004 router and its "virtual server" setting worked great. I just pointed port 36222 to 192.168.2.40:36222. It was quick and easy.
I have spent over 5 hours trying many things multiple times including an hour in tech support. I was sent a replacement VT2442 and it also did not work.
I have tried "user" and "custom" port forwarding with no luck. Even DMZ had no effect.
Did you ever get a port to open up? I'd love to here a success story.
Do the settings take effect when you click the save button or do you have to restart the router?
I noticed the manual mentions clicking on "apply". I have never seen such a button. Does the apply button really exist?
From page 30 of the manual “Enable It is selected by default and automatically applies when you click Apply.”
Thanks,
Ron.

Post subject: It finally works!
It sure was a nightmare, but it works now. here is what I learned.
Save your new settings at least 5 times. restart the router then check to see if the new setting survived. Repeat as many times as needed.
You CAN NOT be inside your network and use your WAN IP to test your port forwarding.
You CAN use a extra computer connected to the router WAN port with a crossover cable. Set the routers WAN to a static ip (192.168.25.1) and the extra computer to static IP (192.168.25.25). This is an in house way to test your port forwarding.
