I can't get bittorrent speeds to exceed 1 kb/s using the RTP300. Once in a while it will go up to 3 kb/s but never higher than that. I tried port fwding. Didn't help at all. Maybe my settings are wrong? If anyone could help it would be appreciated. Thanks

Good luck getting bit torrent to work well with your connection. Is your Vonage router hooked up to the cable modem or did you connect it to a wireless router? You can try messing with the QOS settings but look at the link below.

Checked out the WRT54GP2 (not exactly thruput tweaked): http://www.tomsnetworking.com/lans_routers/charts/index.html?chart=119

the Vonage edition of the WRT54G gets HALF what the normal edition gets. maybe less memory, more overhead for the Voip app running... Also look out for those reverse DNS lookups

The throughput is not going to be 3kbps, so that's not the problem. Unless, imbok, you have slower than dialup speeds for everything else.

The RTP300 should be able to get higher speeds, but the Vonage supplied routers are horrible for heavy internet usage. The way I understand it they can't handle many connections well, and they keep those connection longer than needed. This bogs the routers down.

The if really want staller bittorrent performance you should invest in a better router like the WRT54G (not v5), or WRT54GL, assuming you want wireless.

Eh, just go buy a high end netgear. it's easier than messing with custom firmware.

I have normal DSL and the router is attached directly to the modem.
When you say get another router do you mean that I use both and attach one to another or I am replacing this one with a WRT54g? I think the RTP300 has a port specifically to plug your phone line in (RJ-11?) and the WRT54g has only RJ-45 ethernet ports. So I can't replace one with another...

If you were to get another router you would place the RTP300 behind it.

Is there anything else I can do to tweak it besides buying another router?

(It actually went to 6 kb/s this morning but still nothing close to the 80-100 kb/s I get on my friends WRT54g V4.)

Do you have the right ports forwarded to your PC which runs BitTorrent? I'm not sure what the right port #'s would be (your BitTorrent program should tell you), as these are different with each BitTorrent client. If you're not forwarding ports, the traffic will be blocked/dropped, and you won't see much activity.
