Post subject: Vonage not active in Dubai, U.A.E. Probable ISP block.
Hi, I live in dubai, United Arab Emirates, where the ISP Etisalat is playing monopoly. I have been using the device for almost a month now, and it has been working perfectly fine. Although three days ago, the green light stopped and the yellow stand by light has been constantly on. I tried doing the whole unplugging and plugging again process with the routers but nothing seems to work. Other people i know of who also use the
Voip
services seemed to have a block in services. Is there any way i can start using my service again? Or is there a way to bypass this block? Please help me thanks a million. O one last thing the
vonage
website has been blocked for ages anyway, but thanks to auto debit, my account is always active. Thanks
HELP NEEDED URGENTLY.

I am having the same issue with my
Vonage
Device in Dubai. Any help would be much appreciated. There is no dial tone and the phone has gone dead since the last 3 days. It had been working fine the last month or so.
Any advice, suggestions would be great.
Thank you.

hey bro, I feel your pain!!! My fiance lives in Dubai and the service was cut off as well... I am currently working on getting a linksys router and creating a VPN so the info will be tunneled and
Vonage
should start working again.

You can encrypt your internet connection by using a VPN. Services like
PublicVPN
provide a service VPN endpoint ($5/month), and you'll need a VPN capable router, like the BEFVP41 or a WRT54G with 3rd party firmware.

I think the router has to be a 54GL if I am not mistaken

It can also be a WRT54G, though not a v5. I think you may be able to use a WRT54GS or a WRTSL54GS too.

great... for those of you looking for the 3rd party firmware, through my exhausting search/chatting here is what I found
http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/index.php
to be the site you want to go to for updating the firmware.
